I have been trying to help myself through the FINE tutorials posted on MG; but have run into a roadblock with regards to JAVA removal. When I attempt to 'remove' the message> 'Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid'. Appears:confused I am using the 'Add/Remove Program', and had no luck going through the CCleaner application on my computer to 'remove' it either?

I am attempting to follow each direction to the letter to get my computer back to what I consider 'normal operating'rolleyes. Appreciate any help as I am not computer literate in the sense that most folks here are:-o

Use JavaRa to remove all instances of Java.
Get the latest version of Java from here

    Cheers..

I recieved an Error message when I tried to do the Java Setup> Error 25099 unzipping core files failed. Even though I 'allowed as Installer/updater' through my Comodo Firewall?

    Hi

What Windows version and Service Pack are you using?

Did you first as mentioned uninstall all versions of Java if found in add/remove, then use JavaRa to cleanup any remaining parts, if you have Vista or Win7 then you may need to right click JavaRa and choose Run as Administrator to have it clean all parts out

But do check these locations and make sure they have NO files in them %ProgramFiles%\Java\jre6\ and %APPDATA%\Sun\Java\jre1.6.0_10\ if they have files in them then delete them, reboot and try re-installing Java again. *cto get to the two locations as I have left the direct code as its not OS specific as I dont know what you are using and some have different locations but to open those two locations in bold all you need to do is click Start > Run and paste them in and click OK and the folder will open.

Hi, I appreciate your prompt reply to my Java problem. I am running M Windows XP HOME EDITION, Version 2002, Service Pack 3. Which I think is the 32 bit version?

I keep getting the same message when I try to use 'ADD/REMOVE' > 'Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid'.

I could paste the first 'program files' location in 'run' but not the second as it would not take it. I did 'select all' and 'delete' everything that was under 'program files' which appeared to be multiple 'licenses'?.

Can you do what is suggested here?
    http://www.java.com/en/download/help/error_applying_transforms.xml

I also found this posted by someone a few years back who was trying to uninstall a program called crystal so you will note that name in what I quote.
So it appears you need to look through the registry at
    HKey_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\
    and see if Transforms appears.

I did look into your suggestion; and although it appears it could work, the MS Windows uninstaller can cause problems with other programs as stated. I now officially HATE Java for it not being easy to remove from my computer!!! It has given me more grief than ANY other problem with my computer since 2002!!! I am the opposite of a computer geek meaning I have NO CLUE , hence this is all VERY frustrating in trying to resolve this issue. Java's BS about 'we're so sorry you can't get it off your computer' is BS! Java should be required by law to make a simple program available to remove it's product from a computer if the OWNER of the computer deems it neccesary IMO. Pissed off? Darn Tootin'!! Why does the computer user fraternity out there put up with companies like Java?!! Are there alternatives to Java to use on MS W XP?

I believe you are Going through The Read and Run Me And have already run some of the malware scanners.
It's not advised by the the Malware experts to make any changes to the system, once you start the cleaning procedure. While removing old installs of Java is a prerequisite in prepping the System for malware removal, I'd leave it for now.
    Cheers..

sikvik, Np_Clue's posts are in the Welcome section and in Software. There is no suspected malware.
Unfortunately, there is no substitute for Sun's java. There used to be. MSJava was installed with windows 2000 but then Sun brought a lawsuit against MS and now the only java is the one by Sun. I suspect if there were any such "replacement", the company would quickly be looking at a lawsuit against Sun.

It may be of small consolation to you but I had a horrendous time with MSJava on a win 2K computer. (I removed it then discovered once it was removed, there was no way to install it again.)

Are we clear that you used JavaRA to remove all the old java remnants?
I currently have 5 windows partitions and JavaRA was used on all of them at one time or another to scrape on SunJava's old versions. I have win 2K, XP Home and XP Pro running on those computers.

    Another idea.

After running the JavaRa, run the cleaner AND registry cleaner with cCleaner from Here.

Then, save the Java download install file to your desktop.

Then reboot into safe mode and double click on that install file and install.

Not positive this will work but I found this solution on-line and I have had success with other cantankerous programs using this method.

Do set a restore point before starting this! But I doubt if you will need it.

Plodr, I have attempted to run JavaRA but it would not complete?! I am sad to hear you had a similiar issue with Java removal (crying emotiocon!) The last part of your post was a bit over my head....as in....I should've listened to my mother and gotten married and settled down and had a family; vs being an adventurer for the past 35 yrs! At least then my kids would be dealing with all my computer issues LOL!! I'm humbled by folks experience with computers regardless of their age. If only I lived in a neighborhood with some kids...LOL! None of my local libraries (according to them, roll eyes) have a computer club that meets there, or I'd bring this laptop right over! I'm sure a computer knowledgable person over 8 yrs old could help me on the spot with them at the keyboard!

Ok, I have CCleaner on my desktop as an App, as well as Malwarebytes, Adobe Reader 9, Comodo Firewall Pro, Mozilla as my Browser (IE turned off), and no other Apps. I do have 20 odd folders on my Desktop.

I tried the JavaRA but was left with Java 6 Update 7 under CCleaner/ Add/Remove programs BUT no Publisher or Version number listed now?!?!

The JavaRa was saved as a Zip file to my desktop.

NO_CLUE, it is never to late to learn. I'm a female senior citizen who started learning most of this when I was well into my 40's!

For the java setup error, this old thread on Wilders might be what you need to do.
    http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=237995

What version of windows are you running? Maybe the problem is that you do not have an "unzipper" so of course JavaRA will not do a thing until it is unzipped. (XP includes an unzipper but Vista does not).
If you are running XP, simply right-click the JavaRA zipped file and select "unzip" or extract. (I'm not sure what the correct word is). If you aren't sure, right click and write down the choices, then ask here so we can tell you which one to pick.

Since I can't edit, I'll amend my previous statement. It appears Vista has an "unzipper" but from this article
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/...-files-in-vista-is-painfully-slow-workaround/
it appears as if it might be very slow.

I have no idea if this has been fixed with any updates or service packs.
Can anyone running Vista confirm that the unzipper works okay now?

I'd hate for NO_CLUE, if she is running Vista, to right click, select extract and because nothing appears to be happening, assume that the unzipper is not doing its job.

    Hi

If this one %APPDATA%\Sun\Java\jre1.6.0_10\ didnt work then its likely you dont have that location for anything to save files too, so your fine and nothing to delete, but try looking in this location C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java for a folder likely named jre1.6.0_20 (your number will be different as I have Java 6 Update 20 installed, once found open the folder and double click the Windows Installer Package File, looks like a PC and CD icon.

First off read this and try the suggestion HERE at Sun and if that doesnt work try the Windows Installer Cleanup Tool and look for Java in the list and remove it.

Do make sure when you are trying to uninstall Java that you have all applications closed and that means Internet Explorer, Firefox etc anything that may use Java.

@Plodr ~ they have XP Home, post #6 easy to miss in a longish thread, and good thought on JavaRA maybe not unzipped, as some apps dont work well in compressed state.

Halo, Thank you also (and Sikvik too) for your encouraging patience to assist me with finding out how to upgrade my Java and remove the older version. I am not opposed to meeting someone at my home or local library that is a member here on the Forum for 'hands on help'. I'm near Red Bank NJ, so if anyone here is near there and would like to fiddle,uh, I mean, figure this out! By all means PM me and we can work out a meetup for this laptop.

My concern is that because of my lack knowledge with computers, programs, processes, and systems; I'm VERY concerned that I'll do something to FUBAR my laptop and end up without a computer. This is why I am taking each post and following them to the letter until I no longer feel comfortable doing the process.

:-o Let me start off by apologizing by assuming you were a gal.
Most everyone assumes I'm a guy which rarely bothers me until they address me as dude! ;)

    1. You have unzipped JavaRA. When you double-click on JavaRa.exe to run it, and then select English and click on the Button that says Additional Tasks and check the following:
    Remove Useless JRE Files
    Remove Startup Entry
    Remove Sun Download Manager
    Check Java Version
    Open JavaRa Logfile
then click Go and wait, what does the logfile finally say?

If you are still having a problem with this, using the below would be worth a quick try:

    Revo Uninstaller

If the above does not help, run MGtools per the below and attach the requested MGlogs.zip file here:

    Using MGtools

Ask some one to PM me ( you yourself cannot PM yet since you do not have enough posts here ) once you attach the MGlogs.zip file since I do not always check the Software Forum that frequently.

I FINALLY DELETED JAVA RA FROM MY COMPUTER DESKTOP. I know I had the CAPS so folks could see my post within your's. Thanks for the advice, I do believe that it will take someone other than myself working the buttons on my laptop to clear the system up:(

Do as Chaslang suggested and attach the MGlog.zip. That way we can see where it is an uninstall it that way.

I did the REVO thing, and even though it does'nt show Java 6 update 7 under it. Java 6 update 7 still appears, ableit without 'version', listed under the CCleaner? I did not try the second suggestion yet but am going to now. Thank you to everyone participating in this thread.

Ccleaner's Uninstall tool may be able to just delete the entry too. ;) Did you try it?

I tried to use the CCleaner to just 'delete' the entry, but no luck. I need to figure out how to find and attach the Mclog.zip?

I'm now confused as to why my 'user account' switched itself over to 'Administrator'. Avira (which I reinstalled after deleting it last week) has issued me 'Warning', ' You have administrator rights, you are working with administrator rights. Recommended you only work with a restricted user account'. Help would be appreciated as I have never had a 'Guest account' on my computer and alays used just my 'regular account'.

  28. collinsl

    collinsl MajorGeek

Windows requires at least one administrator account to be present on all computers at all times. Thus all accounts set up during the first set up of windows are automatically assigned administrator rights. Windows Vista and 7 attempted to mitigate this by running most programs in user mode and only elevating them when prompted, but some programs are automatically elevated.

What windows version are you running at the moment?

I'm running ms windows home xp 2002 32 bit from what i can tell. I understand about the 'admin' account; I was just questioning why Avira never pointed this out to me before I reinstalled it last week?

Avira only just incorporated this into it's latest version as far as I can tell.

The only Java showing in your add/remove program list is the Java updater program.

Use it or download and install:
    Java Runtime 6
