Moniter cuts off at the top

Ok so today when I logged on my computer, I noticed that I could move the mouse all the way up to the top of the screen because there was this small black line going across which was never there.. It basically pushed everything down more. Does anyone know what it could of been from? What I also noticed was that this occurs on the desktop and on IE, but when I go into CSS it's not there. Also I noticed it has to do with the resolution but I'm usually at 1280x1204, but for it to be fixed I have to go the highest resolution which is 1680x1050.

 

Is the monitor connected with VGA, DVI, HDMI or other?

VGA cable ends are typically blue and are shaped like a D. DVI cable ends are typically white and are elongated with groups of pins on the right hand side and a flat larger pin on the left. HDMI is a small connector shaped like a pyramid with the pointy end cut off. It is very flat and the cables are typically flat as well.

If it is VGA there should be a sync button on the monitor to centre the image.

OK. 1680 x 1050 suggests a wide-screen monitor to me, which will be a 16:9 or a 16:10 aspect ratio, and 1280 x 1024 is a 4:3 aspect ratio, or a square. Therefore your monitor is trying to fit the image to the space and is getting confused and cutting stuff off.

 

What are my possible options to fix this? I'm thinking so far that it could of been altered by a gpu driver upate.

 

Try a 16:9 aspect ratio resolution, like 1280 x 960
