Not sure if I shorted my board.

OK. I have a MSI 925xe New Platinum motherboard. I'm been doing a barebone test and I can't get it to boot. It's kind of weird. We I try to start it the fan ALMOST starts up, which seems to mean its somewhat getting power. Never had that happen before and that also leads me to think that maybe it's not shorted. At least i hope. Also It's only certified for up to DDR2 533mhz, the ram I was trying to use is a 667mhz ddr2 from another system. I figured the ram would clock down but maybe that's part of the problem. PSU is a 600watt coolmaster that works find with other motherboards. I'm going to try to get some 533mhz ddr2 in the next few days.

Any suggestions/thoughts?

 

What about your CPU? Have you tested it?:confused

 

no. but I'm starting to lean towards the board being at least partially shorted. I took off the CPU and left the fan connected. gives me the same half a spin. Same when connecting a different 3 pin fan. The fans work for sure. even with no memory or CPU the fans would still spin it the Mobo was receiving power. And tried to different PSUs both of with I know work. Oh well.

 

What type of mobo is it?

 

have you tried clearing the CMOS?

I downloaded the manual before my first post. But know overclocking has been done. The board was the start of a new build.
