    Hi
I was on here a few weeks back. After posting my logs, receiving some more help, and then doing some extra steps everything seemed to be going fine. Unfortunately, the other day the same malware showed back up. What I am getting is some sort of pop up that looks like an antivirus, it is called (antispyware soft or something like this). When you try to do anything the program tells you everything is infected and that the application cannot be executed.

I had to do a system restore just so I could run the programs in the read and run me section (I only went back a few days).

I just finished all the steps and these are my new logs
If there are any more steps just let me know.

p.s. i know i ran SUPERAntiSpy and i know it said it found nothing.. but i cant find the log for it?

You should have completed the final instructions that dr.moriarty gave you. You never installed a reall software firewall and you did not install the recommended Spybot and SpywareBlaster either. While their is no perfect solution, following all of the instructions in the How to protect link he gave you, prevents many many problems.

Since you did a System Restore that effectively removes any updates that occured after the restore point date for Windows and your antivirus, and any other programs. You should make sure you re-update everything.

Now if you are using any disk emulation software like Daemon Tools or similar, make sure you run Defogger as requested in step 6 of the READ & RUN ME before continuing. This must remain disabled until we give you the all clean and final instructions.

Now go to TDSSKiller and Download TDSSKiller.zip to your Desktop
    • Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    • Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bold command into Run box and hit Enter.
    "%userprofile%\Desktop\TDSSKiller.exe" -v
    • Follow the instructions to type in "delete" when it asks you what to do when if finds something.
    • When done, a log file should be created on your C: drive named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it has expired or need to be updated to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    These are my logs
When I was running combo fix it rebooted the machine at some point (it said something about something running)... near the end of the scan my antivirus (antivir) popped up saying something was attacking the computer (I don’t know if that was a false positive from combo fix or if something was going on for real). Now I know I turned off antivir and it did not look like it was on, so I don’t know if this affected the scan at all.

At this point in time things are running good

    Your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

I am getting ready to do these last steps but I wanted to know if I should worry about antivir. I have had this pop up a few times in the last day (I took this info from my events log)

Virus or unwanted program 'TR/FraudPack.axfn [trojan]'
detected in file 'C:\System Volume Information\_restore{9BD1FDC9-22B0-4A91-B59D-B30990D15CEF}\RP284\A0084954.exe.
    Action performed: Deny access

Should I worry about this or should I just finish off the last steps

No! That is what the last steps are for. ;) That is just a System Restore entry.

I have finished off the last steps and installed comodo, Spybot, and SpywareBlaster
After doing so I have had AntiVir catch something twice. (this is from my events log)

“Virus or unwanted program 'TR/Patched.Gen [trojan]'
    detected in file 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\disk.sys.
    Action performed: Delete file”

I just wanted to know if this is something I should worry about or if everything is good.

    Thanks for all the help

At some point in time before you came here, you must have run some other scans. One of them was another scan with a Kaspersky tool. Maybe even another version of the TDSSkiller program I had you run. This earlier scan found a TDSS infection in your disk.sys file and as part of the repair replace it with a file name tskF.tmp which they hooked in to worked around the infected disk.sys file. You can see the below line in your TDSSkiller log:
    Code:
    20:57:11:812 0396 Disk (044452051f3e02e7963599fc8f4f3e25) C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\tskF.tmp

This earlier basically patched your system to work around the infection with truly getting the disk.sys file properly replaced.

If AntiVir removed the disk.sys file without replacing it with a clean copy, your system may not have been bootable. Did you have any problems afterwards? Is Avira still detecting a problem? Does the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\disk.sys file still exist?

Avira is not detecting “'C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\disk.sys “ anymore.

    The C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\disk.sys file still exist.
For the most part everything is running fine but now Avira is catching this

Virus or unwanted program 'TR/Patched.Gen [trojan]'
detected in file 'C:\System Volume Information\_restore{9BD1FDC9-22B0-4A91-B59D-B30990D15CEF}\RP1\A0000179.sys.
    Action performed: Deny access

This has came up a few times but I was not at the computer to tell it to delete (it performs the deny access setting after a few seconds).
    thanks

You need to complete my final instructions which will remove infected restore points.;)

I did all of the steps days ago. Including the disable system restore and re-enable system restore. The only thing I did not do was uninstall HijackThis (it was not in my add/remove) :confused

The you will need to toggle it again because the below is in System Restore:

Thank you for all your help
I re did the system restore toggle and everything looks good. The only problem I am having is that comodo fails when I try to do its update. I think it is just comodo not working the right way. I think I am going to uninstall and then reinstall the new version.

    Once more thank you
