Can I declare a World Cup free thread for those who wish to seek asylum for the next few weeks?

    Welcome to the forum.

I live in a country that is football mad but can not produce a decent national team, we get thrashed every time.

Joey you live a bit too close to the border to be humorizing (is that a word) about your celtic neighbours.

I work with a load of Jockinese who hate England. It's payback time.

Wait wait wait, the Scots hate the English?.... What did we ever do to them?....... Oh, thats right, nevermind :-D

Welcome Cozzielex, so.... what do you think of the World Cup so far? :-D

I didn't think this would remain the World Cup free thread for long. Three posts before the subject turns to the beautiful game.
Someone please rename this thread 'This way to a World Cup thread' in red letters an inch high :-D ;)
Welcome to Major Geeks, Cossielex :wave

  15. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

Oh he read it, at least the title and probably figured you have to pay to post in the official thread :-D .... this one's free!!

And really, whatever your intent with this thread, all you did was dangle a hook and bait to all us sarky jokers :-D

As I said, Welcome to MG's lounge :-D

  16. cozzielex

    cozzielex Private E-2

    Thanks Nedlamar,
Apart from enjoying the humour of the sarky jokers, it's good to be welcomed with such panache (perhaps someone in due course will tell me what that means).
Now about this world cup thingymejig!
I've posted an Open Office problem in the software board and I hope one or more of you bright-eyed persons can give it the once over.
Again, thanks for the welcome and it's good to be here.

  17. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

Panache?... isn't that some kind of Kebab dressing?

As for your problem, not my area of knowledge but I'm quite sure someone will jump on it.
Just to give you an idea of how this place works, when you post a problem you musn't expect a response instantly, sometimes those who know best maybe not visit for a day or 2 so patience is a must. But rest assured you are now part of what I think to be the be all and end all of PC tech help and discussion. If it can't be answered here, it probably can't be answered lol

    Nedlamar,
Your erudition and the speed of it's delivery are a joy to behold, see the proof of your scholarly response from the Online Dictionary

    pa·nache *(p-nsh, -näsh)
    n.
    1. Dash; verve.
2.A bunch of feathers or a plume, especially on a helmet.
3.Turkish [orig 14th C] A rich dressing for cooked meats or salads

[French, plume, verve, from Italian pinnacchio, plume, from Late Latin pinnculum, diminutive of Latin pinna, feather, wing; see pet- in Indo-European roots.]

    I'm sorry.... what?
You do realise this is an English speaking forum? :-D

As for the origins of the word Panache, it comes largely from 1st,3rd,5th,8th,14th and 16th letters of the English alphabet where by knowledgable people made up a definition for it one night over some chilled lager and walkers crisps... then other countries made up more interesting definitions....this is of course..... not true and any similarity to persons living or dead is purely coincidental.... meaning it's b0llocks :-D

Oh well, off to work I guess.... maybe I'll perform my tasks with a certain degree of Turkish dressing.... maybe..

No, no, you're thinking of "ganache", which I believe is a form of cucumber soup. I suppose it could be used on a kebab if you want it... :p

I am quite certain that a WC free thread during the WC is against some law.

Where is our resident member of the gestapo at? lol

  22. cozzielex

    cozzielex Private E-2

Mimsy, I regret to inform you that you are quite wrong as everyone (at least in my neck of the woods)knows that 'Ganache' is a pastry filling, or less commonly a surly spinster or termagant. However you are to be commended for upholding the spirit of the thread by avoiding the WC.
MOTC7 is to reprimanded or at least thrown fairly roughly to the floor for suggesting that football (in any form) might have some forensic validity; not even Herr Flick of the gestapo in his worst excesses would go that far.

  23. Mimsy

Nonsense. You're thinking of gazpacho. :p

    Mimsy,
I wasn't thinking of gazpacho, but if I did, in which direction would it lead me (please bear in mind my advanced years and frail disposition)

No he has the threads read from newest post to oldest so wont have read the original post as he is Australian and upside down ;)

WC = Toliet in UK :-D just kinda like this thread will end up going down ;) :major

I think if anyone here is qualified to talk about Gazpacho soup it would be Motc7 ;)

by the way do the forum rules allow me to change this to a 'food' free thread with meaningful discussion about a sporting event current to SA?

The "panache" is great on Pebble, albeit not a hot or cold soup by far! On the other hand, if you you pull, or snap hook on the eighteenth, you're in the drink :-D
    Cheer

In the drink eh! Well I can think of worse places to be than that (one of which was sitting in a cafe in Aregum Bay, being treated to a Vegemite omelette by a madman from Bondi who was taking time out from body surfing between the sharks!)(Strange the things that come to mind).
