Hi, I am looking for some help. I just installed a Nividia Geforce 9500 GT 1gb card in my computer (Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit) . The card uses a HDMI cable instead of an RGB. After the installation, I can no longer gain any audio/sounds through my TV/Monitor. I have updated the driver but have had no success. Has anyone had this same problem and/or can anyone kindly provide me with some advice/help on how to get the audio/sound working? The old card used the motherboards audio out and TV PC input cable (one black), this no longer works.

    Cheers

If I'm interpreting this correctly, you're trying to get sound out of your video card?

Never heard of people doing that before, but as for sound devices, you could right click on the speaker icon in the tray, click on Playback Devices, and it should give you a list of devices capable of playing sound. Have you tried playing around with that?

I have an ATI card but connect via HDMI. Check in the Control Panel Device Manager under sound and see if there is a nVidia sound device and make sure there are no problems. ATI's is shown as ATI High Def Audio Device, not sure what nVidia calls theirs.

You may have to go into the motherboard BIOS and disable the on-board sound it has, it may be causing a conflict.

Any sound source settings on the TV/monitor you may have to have changed as well?

    Sam

    Hi Scajjr and EEEEDIOTT,

Thank you for responding to my question and your valuable help, it is greatly appreciated.

I had already tried the speaker icon in the bottom right hand corner, which is realtek on my computer. Bassed on both of your advice, I decided to give it ago again and played around with every setting on the realtek manager. I am not sure which selection or what happened but I now have sound....yeh :) Must be something to do with Murphy's law and not hold my breath properly the first time.

Thank you again for your help. I hope Karma is returned to you in kind 10 fold.

    Regards

Good to see it is resolved and your blessings from Karma are nice indeed. Little tip, take screenshots of the current "RealTek" settings for later reference for when and if you update the audio driver.

Glad to hear things are working.... however..... usually a separate little cable is needed to run from the video card to the motherboard, so the audio gets added to the HDMI signal. It's a small 2pin cable, and it's VERY important that it's plugged in correctly; I accidentally plugged one in 'backwards' with pin1 connected to the pin2 connector and vice-versa; as soon as the PC was powered on, there was a POP!, and some smoke, and the little cable had basically super-heated and exploded, burning the insulation on the cable in the process. Luckily, no other components were damaged. So, be careful and vigilant, and plug pin1 to pin1, pin2 to pin2!!!!

Hi dlb, my video card has no cable attached, I looked before installing it just in case. Sorry to hear how things went for you, it must have been annoying. At least as you said it did not damage any other components. Thank you for your response. regards datkins

Hi Bold Eagle, Thank you for great advice, what a great idea. I never thought about doing something like that. I will remember that when doing anything setting changes. One thing that I like about the internet is the way people are willing to help others and ask nothing in return. Thank you again and I am sure good things will come to you as well. regards
