    In Windows XP Home.

It seems that it won't let me do it. I like to flush the most recent one as well and I don't know how. Googled but what I found didn't work for me.

    Thank you.

BTW: I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials some days ago and MSE is putting restore points in my computer and only 1 system restore point has been made since then. Strange....

I may have to go back to Avast A/V but want to flush all restore points to start fresh.

    HI Oma, try this:

To get rid of old restore points:
    • Select Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools > Disk Cleanup.
    • In the Drop down box that appears select your main drive e.g. C
    • Click OK
    • The System will do some calculation and the display a dialogue box with TABS
    • Select the More Options Tab.
    • At the bottom will be a system restore box with a CLEANUP button click this
    • Accept the Warning and select OK again, the program will close and you are done
    • Reboot

This should clean them up for you.;)

Another method, since TeeCee beat me to it.

Control Panel > System (System Properties window opens) > "System Restore Tab", check "Turn off System Restore on all drives" click "OK" button, Re-boot.

To turn restore back on, do same only un-check "Turn off System Restore on all drives" click "OK" button. No need to re-boot.

Another way to bring "System Properties" window up is the [Windows] Key + [Pause/Break] key combination.

If that doesn't work, I'm stumped.

Reboot - Reboot - I didn't reboot after removing the Restore points. :-o That must have been the reason that a new restore point was created. I wanted to scan with the new setup of Avast without a new restore point on. After the scanning I re-enabled Avast and all seems fine since now with only 1 restore point after the Avast scan.

Did the reboot and that seemed to have worked. Thanks guys. :)

I got fed up with MSE putting system restore points prior/after? every update. It seemed to override the system restore points?

I do have CCleaner for many years, use it to remove restore points often and it will definitely NOT remove the most recent restore point (it's grayed out).

I removed MSE ( didn't like it either) and installed Avast. Did a scan and the message that I got previously by Avast repeatedly with every scan was about not being able to scan some system restore part due to "archive password protected". (It could not be deleted, removed etc because all buttons were all grayed out). The message after installing and scanning by Avast has disappeared for now. Let's hope that it stays that way.

Hope the above clears it up. ;)
