My ex computor repairman installed a copy of Office Enterprise 2007 on my new computor. He gave me a product key and everything worked fine for about a year. Now, everytime I open Outlook, I get an "unauthorized copy" message from Microsoft. I own another copy of Office 2007 which allows me to install on three platforms. Can you help me with the installation of the authorized copy?

Has it occurred to you that your "ex computor repairman" probably also installed the same version of Office on other computers? Therefore, you have an illegal installation of Office and that's probably why you're seeing that message.

Exactly what is it you want to know?

I would try uninstalling the illegitimate edition of Office and, if that was successful, then install your copy of Office 2007.

Most likely your purchased copy of Office 2007 is the Home and Student edition which can be installed on three devices in one household. Unfortunately, it does not include Outlook. If you wish to use Outlook, than installing this version of Office won't help.

the chart shows how many devices Office can be installed on and further down the page, another chart shows what componenets are included in each version.

I don't want to lose my current saved email and documents. Can I install over unauthorized version and then use authorized key?

    Thanks for your input.

You do not need to install office again, even if you do that, you will not loose anything as personal documents.

You could change the Office 2007 Key for another one "legal" and revalidate it using internet.

    Read this:

If you found a valid and legal key tell us and we will help you to change the key product.

    1. As I mentioned since the Home and Student edition does not include Outlook, you will lose the email.
    2. A key for the Home and Student edition will NOT be accepted for the Enterprise edition. You can not expect to take the key from a $100 program and put it into a $300 program. Keys for the different versions are not interchangeable.

I'm curious what your ex-computer repair person charged you for the Enterprise install. You do not have to tell me but I'm sure MS would be very interested if a repair person kept charging people and installed using the same key on lots of computers.

One doesn't "find" legal, valid keys. One contacts MS and buys the key but since Enterprise edition costs over $300, the price will be high.

I tried your suggestion. New key from ligitimate military (3 platforms) version of Ofc2007 not accepted. Reverted back to old key. Everything is back to normal now. I am going to leave as is for now If problem happens again I will ask for assistance with uninstalling old and installing new. Thanks again for your insight and assistance.

He helped me build a new computor system. He installed the Ofc 2007 instead of my old Ofc 2003. I don't thinl he charged me for it other than the time.

Uninstalling Office won't actually delete your Word/Excel/Powerpoint documents, but you won't be able to access them either without reinstalling Office or another program which can read these files, such as OpenOffice.

Your Outlook data file would remain on your computer but would not be readable until Outlook is reinstalled.
