Illegal Character in filename

HI everyone, I have a file name with an errant "." in it. I cannot modify, rename or delete the file. I would like to rename it if at all possible, NOT DELETE it. I have tried using cmd to get at the short file name using x/ and that didn't work, although i didn' really know what i was doing. Any help renaming this file with an illegal character in it would save :banghead:banghead:banghead me some hair.

Is this a system file or data file? It might help if you post the name of the file as it is being displayed.

Somebody else will have to help. I know nothing about game files, if they are read only maybe, how the whole thing is hooked about to your registry, etc.

Do you know for a fact this is an illegal character?

Maybe somebody else with the same game can help. There are quite a few gamers here.

 

It's not a game file, its a Mastroka movie file. I'm positive it's the period after "vs."

 

Hey guys, I figured out that the file was corrupt. The period in the title didn't matter even on XP. Thanks for the help, but I was just being dumb. Couldn't see past what I thought was "illegal" punctuation.
