Been folding for Major Geeks for years, not to actively for last several, check Today and I am still # 38. real sad. give a good reason to keep with You Guy's and I will stay. still check out site once in a while, still good stuff,

P.S. Drove to Florida from Illinois and watched last shuttle launch, Awesome Star, hope everything is well with You and family.

I can not speak for you martinch.
    Your statement speaks for itself.
Now speaking for myself concerning Folding@Home and team Majorgeeks.com it all began in the year 2004 as knoppix was new on the scene (live cd) and I was just learning to burn bootable iso's and noticed while on the home page of Majorgeeks.com there was that text I always saw when I did a successful install of the Linux distro "Folding@Home" except on the Linux desktop it was an icon.
So I clicked on the link and learned alot, plus Majorgeeks is one of the few sites I trust to download software and run on my computer,so I thought to give back to Majorgeeks.com for the cool softs and got the folding bug in the process.
Plus Majorgeeks.com has one kick bang forum for just about any need an end user could think of. (legally)
I hope this helps you out.

    Hi martinch,

To continue folding for Major Geeks is of course what I hope you will do, but if you have what you consider to be a better offer then by all means make the most of it. :)
The folding team seems to change daily with additions and drop offs. Several people who frequent the forums here split there folding points over one or more teams. I myself cannot be bothered fussing with changing team numbers :-D .

Asking the forum to tell you why you should stay, seems very ironic in today's world, most of us spend time resenting being told what to do, and how to do it and for whom. :)

You should fold only for you, who gets your points is not for us to determine.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'still #38'. You have folded quite steadily to amass over 300K points over the years with an older machine, which is admirable, but as you know computers have gotten way more powerful and new people with newer machines and clients are getting the bigger points thereby pushing you back a bit.

One thing I mentioned here a few months ago was that MG's was lucky to have so many folks like you, dutifully folding in the background with no fanfare are what makes this team stronger IMO. When the 'big boys' go bust with their machines, it's the average folder that keeps the ball rolling.

I don't say this with MG's or any other site in mind, I mention this because you type of folks outnumber the rest of us 'zealots' by a huge margin! Just fold for somebody is all I'm saying as it's the science that really counts the most and then way far behind, the somewhat childish points race for bragging rights.:-D

Don't get me wrong as I'm in the top five for now and feverishly trying to get my new machine working like it should! :cry

    I hope you stick around...

    Keep on folding!:)

    HI

I just will come at this from a different angle, I have been folding on and off since way back in 2004 or 5, did more crunching for the defunct United Devices Cancer Project until reciently when I opted to use my CPU to fold for F@H and the Majorgeeks team, this elevated me from near the bottom to around 80th-ish in no time at all, all due to GPUs being really powerful at this, hence alot of folk now climing up the tables. If you where to join other active teams you may end up lower # than what you are now at Majorgeeks.

However I dont do this to get to #1 I just do it to try and give something small back to the medical community in the aid of helping them find cures or new avenues to go down the the research they are doing. I could if I wished too, setup a few PCs in my home and throw some cash at them to get them to pump out large WUs per day, but that in my mind is not what the spirit of Folding at Home was setup to do, its IMHO more to say that the general public with whatever power PC they have they can help medical science, which is a great use of spare cycles on any type of PC.

So as Augie points out I too hope you stick around as every WU helps the collective team at Majorgeeks itself move up the team ranks.

Folding is not for kudos but more for the fact we can help others.

Hopefully i never get cancer but if god forbid i did it is nice to know that the research has leapt forward due to the millions of small folders.

I fold for a very small team (there are just 5 of us) one of our members is way way ahead of the rest but we still dutifully log on and give our small effort.

    FOLDING ROCKS

Halo has hit the nail on the head in this. If you so choose, you can fold for a different team or individually but please continue to fold for the science's sake.

Agree totally as I am fortunate enough (or maybe notrolleyes) to be one of those zealots. (But the wifey is really starting to complain about the electric bill.;))

With the type of forum we have, which is not your typical one interest type, the camaraderie is more individualized as the core group stays because the atmosphere suits rather than the subject. Being more individuals, it's harder to join together in "Team" actions and that is why the folding here is kinda laid back as FredG has mentioned. But the aim really for the Team is to contribute to the science and points or ranking are secondary.
So, hopefully you will stay around and contribute to the team but if not please accept our Thanks for what you have accomplished.

Hey, that's fantastic! As I always say, affordable folding is the way to go.
