I am having a serious issue with malware on my windows 7 laptop.

I have tried all the spyware cleaning procedure you are recommending but it will not allow me to install...

malwarebytes anti malware...I tried changing the name and still no luck. I even tried a generic name just in case mb.exe was detected by the spyware still not luck.

It claims the setup files are corrupted but I have tried installing three version of this.

    Also...

    Rootrepeal will not run....

    fops...deviceInControl Error....

I imagine that the spyware is causing all of these problems but no idea how to proceed since I can't supply the logs of all the procedure.

Did you disable UAC? And did you reboot after disabling it?

    What happened with SUPERAntiSpyware?
    What happened with ComboFix?
    What happened with MGtools?

Can you open up Task Manager?
    Can you open up MSconfig?

Also have you tried safe boot mode?

UAC is turned disabled and Rebooted the computer.

SuperAntiSpyware did a scan and found some malware
    ComboxFix did its process
    MGtools also scanned

Obviously I can upload the logs but the read-me thread is clear that it wants all the logs.

I did try it in safe mode assuming that would work and still no go.

I do get a server2.mediajmp.com popup and my comp is crazy slow now.

    Please attach the logs.

No. It tells you at the very beginning of the READ & RUN ME just to keep going if certain steps cannot be completed and not to assume that all steps will not work. Obviously if a particular scan canot be completed, the log cannot be attached ;).

I strongly advise you to cleanup your Desktop. Remove eveything but links to run programs. Do not download and save programs here and defintely do not use it for long term storage. You need to keep ComboFix.exe here for now as we need it, but we will be removing it when we are finished with your cleanup. A cluttered Desktop is malware's playground and it can also cause performance degradation especially when you start saving large files here like you are doing.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: Ask Toolbar BHO - {D4027C7F-154A-4066-A1AD-4243D8127440} - C:\Program Files\Ask.com\GenericAskToolbar.dll
    O2 - BHO: Java(tm) Plug-In 2 SSV Helper - {DBC80044-A445-435b-BC74-9C25C1C588A9} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jp2ssv.dll
    O2 - BHO: TBSB05974 - {FCBCCB87-9224-4B8D-B117-F56D924BEB18} - C:\Program Files\Search Toolbar\tbcore3.dll (file missing)
    O3 - Toolbar: Nero Toolbar - {D4027C7F-154A-4066-A1AD-4243D8127440} - C:\Program Files\Ask.com\GenericAskToolbar.dll
    O3 - Toolbar: Search Toolbar - {0C8413C1-FAD1-446C-8584-BE50576F863E} - C:\Program Files\Search Toolbar\tbcore3.dll (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now uninstall the below software:
    Ask Toolbar
    LoudMo Contextual Ad Assistant
    My.Freeze.com NetAssistant

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it has expired or need to be updated to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Also delete all files and subfolders in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\Windows\Temp
    C:\USERS\ELIO\LOCALS~1\TEMP

Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Now attach the below log:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

This does not exist on my computer.

I checked to make sure it was not hidden and all folders are unhidden.

    ????

    Should I move forward....

Yes it does. That is just short hand for the below folder:

    C:\Users\elio\Local Settings\TEMP

  9. artistwantab

Access is denied. It wont let me in to the folder regardless of what I do.

    Any suggestion.

Just continue on with the rest of the instructions.

  11. artistwantab

    artistwantab Private First Class

    OK so I finally got...

    C:\Users\elio\Local Settings\TEMP

To open by changing the Security settings in Properties.

Completed all the tasks and here are the logs....

The computer is still downloading EXTREMELY slowly and surfing slowly. I have gone to other locations to check to see if my internet provider connection was just poor. The results are the same. The comp does seem to run a bit smother but still not the way it was. Also when accessing an external hard drive via a USB the speed is so poor that any files on the external hard drive are useless. Tried two different HD's and the results are the same.

Lastly, just on a change I tried installing malwarebytes & Rootrepeal to see if I could run them or install them and the results are the same.

You did not download and run the new version of MGtools as I requested. You need to do this and attach a new log.

May not be due to remaining malware.
    • Have you tested to see if the problem occurs with multiple browsers? If not, you need to test it and tell me which browsers and if each is slow. Make sure only one brower type is opened at any time.
    • Also test to see if it is still slow in safe boot mode
Let's also dig a little deeper to see if any rootkit activity is going on. Run the below and attach the log from GMER:

GMER - running with a random name

    artistwantab Private First Class

    Same on Explor and Firefox.

Tried MGtools again....here is new log.

I tried in safe mode but my wireless connection does not work in safe mode and I do not have access to cable dsl connection right now but I had these problems even when I could use a dsl connection.

I'm not seeing any major reasons for your problem; however, let's fix a few remaining items and run some new scans and see if anything turns up.

Uninstall the below. If you don't see them in Add/Remove Programs or they will not uninstall, just continue on.
    Ask Toolbar
    My.Freeze.com NetAssistant

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Code box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    Code:
    Files to delete:
    C:\Users\elio\Desktop\cac10 .exe
    C:\Users\elio\Desktop\deskto .ini
    C:\Users\elio\Desktop\Inspirational Pic .lnk
    C:\Users\elio\Desktop\MGtool .exe
    C:\Users\elio\Local Settings\temp\4496697.od
    C:\Users\elio\Local Settings\temp\Bit21EC.tmp
    C:\Users\elio\Local Settings\temp\BitAE42.tmp
    C:\Users\elio\Local Settings\temp\BitEDDF.tmp
    C:\Users\elio\Local Settings\temp\CVR9D39.tmp.cvr

    Folders to delete:
    C:\Users\elio\AppData\Roaming\My.Freeze.com NetAssistant

    Registry keys to delete:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{86D4B82A-ABED-442A-BE86-96357B70F4FE}
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{BFF829B6-B433-42CE-9A19-E459D3E4E483}

    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Now please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

NOTE: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only. ATF Cleaner will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. Please move them to a different directory first.
    • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    • Under Main choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
    If you use Firefox browser
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    If you use Opera browser
    • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\avenger.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Well...I am not sure what to do next.

The download speeds and internet is very slow. The download from the external hard drive also very slow but the computer itself runs fine with the exception of download and internet.

Any idea why I can't run Rootrepeal or malwarebytes antimalware....

    Here are the logs.

    Last Result:
Download Speed: 304 kbps (38 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 648 kbps (81 KB/sec transfer rate)

Maybe my expectations are too high. ????

Do you have another PC that you can test on your connection to see how it performs? Alternatively, try your PC at another persons house to compare.

I have tried at a coffee shop and it was slow but I am usually not doing major work at a coffee shop so it never bothered me.

I think I may have stumbled on to the problem and it seems to be working much, much better.

I removed NERO and Adobe Reader. Nero was removed because I decided to remove anything that I added in the last month.

I removed reader because I noticed when I was in a folder with a pdf file my comp slowed down.

    I also deactivated my firewall.

After removing both files and firewall I ran SuperAntiSpyware and it found three instances of an AD-Aware virus that was not found before.

My computer downloads are fine now and everything seems much much better.

    What should I do next???

That's good because as I had stated earlier, this was not a malware issue and I was getting ready to send you to the Software Forum. ;)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Thank you very much. I think I still have some issues and I think I will go over to the hardware forum first and see what I can manage.
