At the moment Iam browsing and checking on ads from last year/year before and refresh my memory on what was on sells and try to give an outlook on what to do for this year/look for. I am already thinking of what I could buy and this and that. And also people normally just shop all around the year because thats when somethings on sell. I remember as a kid my mother constantly buying me something in Jan and having to wait till Xmas to open it. And many times she lose that item and rebuy me something. Then end up finding that 1st item that was lost all over again. Maybe to early for looking up items/planning :cry

Not too early at all Silas, I do some shopping around myself, because when Dec. rolls around, I find that prices do go up. Might do better to buy now, while you can, and just set it aside.

I make most of mine, but have to buy supplies. rolleyes Still, those prices go up as well when Dec. rolls around. You know, it is a nice feeling, to have that all DONE come Dec. I think you are doing a good thing. ;)

I tend to pick up things when they're on sale, and I've learned to only put them on a certain shelf in my closet so they don't get lost before it's time. Somewhere in my house is a VERY cool handmade paper lighthouse I bought my mother several years ago. LOL

I've also learned if I buy Christmas presents early, I often win when I forget someone's birthday. Just go to the closet and see if something works! :-D

We have a family funny moments. It started a while back but we gift bags, wrapping paper and boxes stuff were given to them for Xmas/birthdays were being given back. Say Id gift them a cute gift bag with something in it. They keep it and give it back the next year! Eventually we always joked about it then we finally realize it was true and now we make a laugh of Oh my isnt that sack the one I gave you last year? Also my Gma some reason keeps wrapping paper if its in good shape.

Depends on what I see in the shops or sales throughout the year and if the gift would be good for someone I know, so yes and no to shopping for Xmas.

@ Silas: We do the same thing with boxes! Every year since I was ten someone has gotten the same clock radio. LOL Whenever one of us brings someone new to the family party we have to remember to tell them NOT to trust what the picture on the box says it is...the set of glasses you're apparently opened could very well be a pair of boots. :-D

We also have clothing gift boxes from local stores that haven't existed in years, one since I was barely born. It's always interesting to see what your presents come in at our house. LOL

The wrapping paper thing is a carryover from growing up poor. My mom does it as well. I'll bet your grandma also washes off aluminum foil to reuse, doesn't she? Although now it's environmentally conscious to do it, so we make a little less fun of her. ;)

Yes very good times at Xmas with the "family" like I tell my GF we are who we are. My family aint no "nasty" family but all the woman(they are related) have what we call farts all the time and they let them out if they feel like they need to. So dont be suprise to hear one I told her. Also yes my family grew up poor and her mom(my gma) grew up poorer! :-D My mother only 50 was so poor only toy in her life was a doll that was nasty. And dad had a frame for a truck with no outside sections. Also due to being poor they also like to collect a little(they feel rich with it). But getting back to the Gma washing the foil, my mother and Gma both do. Now my Gma is getting little older and eats less and buys lots less. She basically is a pop tart person. So she buys lots of pop tarts and coffee. Also when she cooks its once a week. And she makes that 1 meal last all week.

I do at times. Saves all the rushing, pushing, fighting over the last of a particular item, all the kids running around screaming.
Saves me some Aspirin also since less headaches.

The thing that sucks about Xmas is I am one of those guys that grew up with to much of a heart. I like seeing others smile/being happy instead of me. I had a lot of my stuff back in the day taken from me when I was force to move some years ago and lost over 300 dvd, tons of games/game systems, work out equipment I just bought new from taxes, riding lawnmower 7 months old, tons of lighting and deco stuff, L couch 1 yr old 36 in tv and all kinds of goodies taken. So I lost much of my stuff. And when it comes Xmas I see many items Id like to have like systems, games, dvd, tv etc.. and they are cheap at xmas but since I got to much heart I want to spend all money on other people to suprise them. I am still looking for a big stuffed animal site. No stores near me and only sites I found were few. And I rather see the animals in person when buying so I know what I am getting and not something I pay big bucks for and it comes looking like a ghetto bear.

I am a member of a dying tribe there is only Laurette (she who must be obeyed)
my Daughter and me. so anytime after August if i spot something i think they would like i get it and put it in my secret hidey hole and that saves any panic on Dec 24.

now I think more about this, mmmmm one is hoping that Ghetto Bear doesnt mean something I will regret mentioning ;) *just remember I have access to the ban hammer, if I can find the damn thing, the admins server and tea room is a pit, cannot move for TimW's left over cake and someones empty wine bottles :major

My wife does the bulk of the shopping and I buy for her and always get each of the kids something special from me.

I'm too anxious to shop early. If I get stuff too soon, I'm likely to drop hints to whomever I get it for. :-o

Not to many Xmas was"a shocker" when I got something because most likely my mom told/asked friends what I wanted/would want. And main thing is I would just ask and they would tell, few would say no but I tell them I just open my gifts early anyways! But if nothing then I just open the gifts and see the edge and see what the items are. Then re tape it in the same spots.

Damn-it, saved from the ban hammer, as I found it under an old copy of SQL Server 2003 ;)

On the topic of xmas, I have been thinking of getting my family xmas cards early this year via Moonpig as I find the server and customisability of cards superb. Normally I am a month or so ahead of birthdays and events with card via that service.
