Problem with Vista 64 User Accounts

I have only one user account set up on my Vista 64 PC (myself as administrator, password protected), but when I shut it down and try to log back in, it shows my account name (with a different picture), but I get an error message saying that my user account is incorrect. So, then, I click on "Switch User Accounts" and it shows 2 accounts with the same user names on it (one with wrong picture and one with the correct picture). After switch to the one with the correct picture, it lets me log in with my password.

I checked in User Accounts and I definitely only have 1 user account set up. This causes problems for me when I try to access my PC remotely through network shares as I cannot log in. Can someone please help me to resolve this because it has been giving me a lot of headaches.

Thank you very much in advance.

From a cmd prompt (win key + R) type in cmd (press enter)

    type in:

    net users (press enter)

Does it list your account twice?

Also, under c:\users (do you see your name multiple times?)

When I checked in cmd prompt, it showed the following:

    C:\Windows\System 32>net users

    User accounts for \\Yamato-PC
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
Administrator Guest Max Yamato (my full name)
    The command completed successfully.

Under c:\users, my name is listed only once. My user account name is "Max" (no last name), but it's showing my full name in both cases. Is that normal? I would really appreciate your help. Thank you.

    Another thought.

    Winkey + r
    type in:

    control userpasswords2 (press enter)

Now, I'm sure your account is only shown once. Try the following:

Highlight your name, then uncheck the box "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Click ok. A box will pop up asking for your password twice. Hit okay, reboot.

Your computer should auto logon. Now, rerun what I typed above and check the box I asked you to uncheck. Click ok, reboot. See if it still causes ye an issue.

Thank you. I'll try that and let you know in little while.

That box was already unchecked. What should I do now??

Odd. well, check the box. ok, reboot, then repeat what I suggested.

    Very very odd.

That seems to have done the trick. I still don't understand how it got screwed up, but I couldn't have fixed it without your help. Thank you very very much!

    Awesome!!!!!:dood

Yeah, that was about to be my last suggestion. Not sure what I would have replied with, if that didn't work.

Thanks for the reply, that it worked!
