    Hi Admins,

First off let me apologize if i posted in the wrong forum.

I did go AVG's support forum but I'm not getting much help there.

    Here is my problem.
I uninstalled the AVG 9.0 version because it would not update
I'm having a lot of trouble with the re-install, every time i try to install it i keep getting this .

    Local machine: installation failed
    Initialization:
Error: Checking of state of the item file avgcclix.dll failed.
    Data error (cyclic redundancy check). %FILE% = "C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\avgcclix.dll"

The avgcclix.dll file is the only thing left in my AVG folder under 'My Computer', it will not un-install.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!!!! :)

    Thank you first off Brandy.
I did use that program initially and it brought me to my problem I'm having now.
It deleted everything except for that one .dll file.:cry

Hmmm, I've uninstalled and reinstalled this program on dozens of machines.

Guess I'd try manually deleting that file and folders, install and run cCleaner from; http://majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Slim_d4191.html

And run the registry cleaner as well, making back-up when prompted.

    Reboot and retry.

If that doesn't work, could save install file to desktop, try installing in safe mode.

    Hey Brandy ,
Some good news at least i was able to re-install AVG but it will not update automatically, but i did notice a prog here that covered that problem.
One more quick ? please , if i go into my computer and go to AVG Folder and find AVGUP or some such name can i update from there or should i download and use the program i just mentioned?

    Thank you .

By the way i am a happy cow ...:-D...i couldn't resist.

You shouldn't need a third party update manager.

If you double click on the AVG icon in your task bar, then select Update Manager, what do you see?

It is telling me that I'm not connected to the update servers.:confused

In all my years with AVG, never seen that.

What other security software do you/did you have. Could be some other active software or something from your machine's past, some of these programs have a way of staying with the machine.

    Have you run the scans from the malware forum;

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

I usually go through these when I find strange behavior like this, at least the SAS amd malwarebyte scans. You can also find a good on-line scan at www.eset.com.

I suggest these steps because, as I said, I have been using AVG for at least 7 years, on I don't know how many machines, and I have never had these problems. So, some malware scans may be in order.

Also, what is your OS? And make/model of machine? HD size and usage? RAM?

I wanted to answer some of your questions before running any scans.

I did have VISS (Verizon Internet Security Suite) that was garbage.
All files and folders have been deleted.
It's not the greatest system but it has served me well over the years.
I hope this answered every thing.

Do you have automatic updates turned on? IE 6 isn't a big problem, but why haven't you upgraded to SP3? A very substantial part of these upgrades are related to security issues and it is best to always have the latest on your machine. Support for SP2 ends this July.

But at this point, I would run the scans first. If they come up clean, you really should upgrade your OS, and at least set automatic updates to notify you when updates are available. Else, your machine remains very vulnerable to malware issues.

Brandy , sorry for the long delay.
First off thank you for pointing out the automatic updates as i didn't realize i had them turned off.
Secondly my computer finally asked me to install SP3 so once i get that finished I'll run the scan.
    Thanks again.
OOPS i did run the ESET scan and found just five problems , i hope that helps.

I usually run the eset scan last, after running through the other scans at the link I gave you.

Generally, if they come up clean, you Should be okay, but the best solution is still to post your logs there.

Odd system performance like you are experiencing is often related to malware.

And did you run the cCleaner along with the registry cleaner?

From a command prompt, type sfc /scannow

Note the space b/n the sfc and the /

    Results of this?

With the above in mind .... there is a remote possibility that you have a similar problem to Georgia Don ("Connection with Update server has Failed") in the following link:
    http://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-free-forum?sec=thread&act=show&id=4539

    Please do the following:
Start > Run and type "cmd" and press <ENTER>.
    Type "set" and press <ENTER>.
Right-click in the window, and choose Select all and then paste in your next post.
