New monitor..

My monitor is OLD and dieing, One of the old bulky types.
So I'm saving my money to get a new one, Id like a 1080p HD monitor, Like a 23 inch or so.... The one I been Eyeballing every time i go to wal-mart is about $220.00, It's an HP, They have a 21 inch acer for 169, but idk too much about acer, Should i get the HP from wal mart or should i be able to get something better and or cheaper from new egg or something???

It'll be a while before I purchase, Prob two months from now, maybe half that, So any other suggestions are welcome and thanks.

Because some people are all too familiar with certan brands and based on there experiences which out weigh mine by far, They could make a Much better recommendation, I don't have much faith in my self in making the best choices in things like this and you can't go by the comments and or how many eggs in the rating cause every item on new egg have some pretty scary cons.

 

I want the best I can get with in a $200.00 - 250.00 price range, and I simply don't know enough about monitors to make a decision.. I found an Asus 23 inch Full 1080p HD and for a good price but upon study i saw why so cheap "2ms" At that point i sen that i could possibly get better with in the same price range above, That is why I'm posting on here asking for help and not just looking my self.

 

Not sure what you mean by "i saw why so cheap '2ms'". I have two ASUS monitors and would not hesitate to buy this brand again if I were buying another monitor.

Are you a hard core gamer, or do you have some other special requirements for a monitor?

 

2ms is the response time in milliseconds so 2ms is good. A lot of monitors are 5ms. Most of the time you wouldn't notice but if you're gaming faster is better.

If it's the Asus VH236H on Newegg for $160 after the $20 rebate that's a nice deal. And with 402 of the 435 reviews 4 stars or better (335 5-stars) I'd say go for it.

Yeah, Gaming.. And I like Asus, My board is Asus, But for a monitor I want the best i can get for the price.

 

EXACTLY, Faster is better and if i wouldn't of posted about this i wouldn't of known what 2ms , 5ms meant, I might of got a 2ms, but seeing that I'm a gamer I probably wouldn't of been pleased knowing i could of got a 5ms, I'm pretty sure the HP at walmart is 5ms for $220.00

You seem to be saying 5ms is faster than 2ms. It's not, it's the opposite; the lower the number, the faster the response time.

 

well good thing i did post here or i would of remained clueless and confused about it, I don't get why a lot of 5ms monitors are more pricy than 2ms.. :confused

In general, if you find 2ms monitors selling (comparing regular prices, not special sales) for less than 5ms monitors, it's probably due to differences in other features, length of warranty, etc.

I recently bought a Samsung SyncMaster XL2370 for around $250. I suggest giving it a look. Great monitor!


The only complaint I have is that it isn't 1920x1200 (16x10).

 

Whenever I get a question about monitors, I always tell people to check out slickdeals.net. I always see great deals over there. For example, there was a 24" samsung 1080p monitor for $165 (slickdeals.net/permadeal/35916/samsung-syncmaster-2494lw-24-1080p-widescreen-lcd-monitor) not too long ago. It looks like it's expired now, but it's still 189.99 which is pretty decent. If you can wait, just check out slickdeals.net every day and you'll see a good deal within the next couple of weeks.

Also, as far as the response time, you won't notice any difference between 2ms and 5ms. You probably won't notice much of a difference below 12ms, honestly.
