Ahh, OK, admitting my total ignorance on kickball, but why is Ghana better than the other team? And no hidden agenda, just asking.

 

Well, they apparently have similar populations (24M) to draw from so it probably comes down to a nation's want, it's kinda tough to not politicize them. Most of the players were likely from the army as no one else eats enough over there in the Democratic Republic of North Korea.

Yes, it did, even if it was only by a foot! Got to agree that the Germans did play better in the 1st half but that's got nothing to do with England's deserved goal. Hopefully by 2014 Fifa should have backup technology so they or the referee can reverse (referee's and linemen's) sometimes wrong decisions.

 

Did you see the linesmean's position? He was about 20 yards up pitch, looking at it from like a 30 degree angle, there's no way he should have called it either way.
But England have come out into this 2nd half looking for blood, I just wish Gerard would stop firing from 35 yards out.

 

Seriously needed as oma, said. Cricket has it's third (Digi) empire as does Tennis with it's eagle eye on a challenge. At least on critical decisions it's required here! The damn game is so quick, it's gonna be a tough call but when in doubt....

I agree, who knows where the match would have gone had the goal been allowed, but we're English... we always get screwed at the world cup. Is anyone seriously THAT surprised?

 

Feel sorry for England with that goal disallowed. With 2-2 at halftime it would have been a completely different game after half time.

Maybe now FIFA will install cameras and allow refs to get another opinion.

Just been reading comments from the German keeper, he says he reacted quickly to try and fool the ref and went on to say the descision changed nothing, they were still the better team.
While I agree the Germans played very well, I can't help think what might have been, think how demoralizing that was for England, people say it fired them up, ok so it might have, but it also probably made several of the players angry and as anyone knows anger interferes with rational thought and skill capability.
I wonder if the German keeper would have felt the same way if it were the other way round.

Also read riot police were ready outside before the match finished and the oficiating squad from Uraguay (however you spell it) were quietly ushered out under armed guard.

I'd like to see Ghana win it. But I think Germany could pull it off if they keep their heads, they have some fantastic foot/team work going on when they want to.

 

Spain just looked awesome out there tonight if you ask me,their possession was impeccable with around 70% ball time it was just so beautiful to watch its how I wanted England to play but enough of that.

Difficult to predict but I like Brazil, Germany and Spain.

I don't like Germany to win although they're fantastic while someone in the family will be upset if I wish for Spain to lose. Perhaps a tie for the latter?

That sorta would leave Brazil as my favorite wouldn't it? :-D

First half Brazil was much better but in the second part the Dutch ruled. :cool

 

I just put two bets on, £10= Holland would beat Brazil at 13/5 and holland would win the game 2-1 at 11/1= £10

I've just won £156:-D and I nearly had a heart attack,my first and only bet this year.

The first half when Brazil were 0-1 up was pretty sickening,then came the Brazil own goal and I thought they are back in it,then the header for 2-1 was pure adrenaline, I attacked my dad:-D The last 20 mins was hell though I was just praying NO ONE scored.

I wish I'd have posted my betting slip now as no one will believe me :-D

Really pleased to see Holland get the win, I would be far from upset if Holland take the cup, I would actually love to see that because if any nation deserves it , it's Holland, hell Cryuf (spelling) should have lifted it on more than one occasion and they have always been strong but always just not hit the mark when it mattered most.
Would like to see a Spain vs Holland final, Holland take it 3-1. That would be a just end to a very unjust World Cup 2010.

 

I don't think Holland have a chance against Spain,Spain are the best tactical passing team I've seen in the whole world cup and that's enough.

I'd like to see Germany pull of something special tomorrow though 'or later today' against Argentina,looking forward to that one.

Damn the Spain Vs Uruguay match was a refereeing farce :-D Not the first time a referee has decided which team he wanted to win,Uruguay's first penalty that went in was disallowed for encroaching-when the players enter the area before the penalty has been taken THEN the second penalty that missed was allowed even though half of the Spanish line up we're practically in front of the ball before it was kicked :-D

Uruguay got screwed.

It's pretty much open house now, all bets are off, I just would love to see a Germany vs Holland Final, like I said, 1-0 to Holland would be great, win or lose, niether has anything to be ashamed of....with maybe the German's admitting to knowing Englands goal should have couted, but I guess any team would have done the same, it's a shame good sportsmanship is dead.

@Rikky. Over the (many) years that I've followed the WC it made me think that at times the games were *rigged* due to referees behavior. Probably not so but it can appear to be sometimes.

The Uraguay vs Ghana match, I'm sorry but Ghana won before extra time, the ball was heading in the net, nothing to stop it except the hands of a uraguay player. How do you judge an act like this, ok so the got sent off, but Ghana got knocked out as a direct result of the action. Is there nothing in the rule book to say the goal should have counted? There's no question it would have been the winning goal.
This entire cup has been one bad call after another and I agree with the article that FIFA need to do something about this kind of crap. I remember them introducing the Yellow card for time wasting back in the '80's.
In many cases it comes down to video refereeing again but in the case of Ghana the guy should not only have been sent off but banned from the next cup and the goal should have been allowed, it's straight down the line for this particular incident yet once again a deserving team heads home quite litterally at the hands of a cheat.
The beautiful game is not as pretty as it once was.

I think the rule book was written many years ago with the fact in mind that it's a gentlemens games, unfortunately as the generations have progressed it seems like players now are willing to lie, cheat and steal to win.
Imagine if England had gone out like that, it would almost have been a decalration of war lol

It saddens me to see the worlds biggest sport dragged down to the level of street football.
