im trying in vain to attach my logs.

in a nutshell, i suspect i still have a virus although SAS and MBAM do not detect anything anymore. On startup error message:

error loading C:\WINDOWS\lbrorl.dll The specified module could not be found.

I also noticed on my system configuration startup menu some HKCU files...including a suspicious looking lbrorl under rundll.exe command? I thought about deleting them but thought i should ask someone first....

    Thanks in advance

    Crystal

I hope this thread isn't buried...

So, the last virus that came up was TR/Vundo.Gen

I cannot start in normal mode, it switches to selective and is not allowing me to make any changes to startup items.

I could not get rootrepeal. I already had everything else on my computer. And yes, I have followed all the steps in the "read and run first". Up until now I have been able to fix my own computer. I just don't know what else to do. Please help! :)

    Thanks in advance

    Crystal

    sending MGtools in next post

Nope, it isn't buried .. It;s in my subscribed threads. ;)

Now then SAS may have already been on your computer but it is now out of date!

Important Notice: A new version of SUPERAntiSpyware is available.
    • Please uninstall your current version (this is necessary).
    • Then download this SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Install this new version. It may tell you that you need to reboot to complete the installation. You must reboot at this time.
    • After the reboot, run SUPERAntiSpyware and immediately click the Check for Updates button to get more updates for the database.
    • Now run a new full scan of your system. And attach this log later.

Also you never did attach C:\MGlogs.zip.

Yes and you also did not download the current version of MGtools either. You are almost a year out of date. You should never keep old versions. The online copy must always be downloaded and used. I will get you started using the logs from the outdated version and have you update at the end.

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it has expired or need to be updated to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista or Win7, make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Now attach the below log:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Still having issues with my configuration. Getting popups warning me my firewall is off when it is not. Norton program downloaded without my permission, i uninstalled. My computer is running alot better than when Ive had previous viruses, Im not having problems doing things but I know that my system is still infected. I am now going to go through every single program that I don't need and get rid of it. Anything I do want I will reinstall to ensure I have the latest version. If there is anything else I can do please let me know.

    Chaslang,

I want you to know how much I appreciate you taking the time to help me. Its really amazing what you do! I am deeply deeply grateful.:)

I stripped my computer to the bare necessities. Not sure if its totally clean but im sure I can manage from here, the major problems are gone. Now that Im really looking at my computer I may just keep a few treasured files and reinstall xp. Its a good thing. :)

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

The Windows firewall that you are using does not provide adequate protection. You need a real firewall.

Not sure what you are referring to?

No, your system was clean after running my last fix.

The main issue you have is that you need to at a minimum double your memory to 1 GB from the 512 MB you currently have and it would be much better to really have 2 GB. You cannot properly run current versions of Windows XP and all the other software you require with only 512 MB.

You also need to stop using MSconfig to control startup as stated in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
