    .... the heat?

Stupid weather is just.... stupid, last week we had temps of 46C with humidity (38C without) and then it eased over the weekend and now it's back, just drove my missus to work a little while ago and the temp at 7am was 31C.

I'M ENGLISH!!! I don't know how to handle these temps :( ..... not to mention the air con at work broke down early last week and for some reason is not yet fixed :mad

:p ahaa the good old british weather. i woke up the other day and was like 'whats that noise?' it took me a moment to realise it was rain that i have heard in weeks. As to who you can complain to... try shouting at the tv/radio everytime they do the weather? or just make it a good excuse to eat way more icecream than is really necessary or healthy

Hehehe Ned!:p I learned a trick from a merchant marine mechanic who poured cold water over his wrists, leave them under the faucet until you can't stand it anymore. Another trick I use at home only, is to soak my bath towel and let it dry/repeat if necessary. A fan helps there.;)

Welcome to the 'frozen white north' man! roflmao

EDIT: towel is draped over my shoulders

You lucky sod. We got torrential rain, a brisk north wind and fog. About 13-15 Celcius. It sucks being so close to Scotland.

No, a Swedish would to... I never post here to complain about it, but I whine horribly about the hot weather in my new home town every summer. The Guy tells me to just go back indoors if it bothers me that much. Of course, it doesn't help that since I'm a through-bred Swede I get sunburnt literally if I stand too close to a window, so even when it's less hot the sun still hurts me.

And despite all the above, where do I go for vacation in mid-July? Vegas. 106F/41C and not the tiniest little cloud anywhere in the sky... walking down The Strip in the middle of the day was not the brightest idea I've ever had. My legs hurt now! :cry

Must be a powerful thing this love, there isn't a woman alive that could temp me to a warmer climate and obviously there isn't a woman alive who can tempt your man to a colder one :-D

He would go with me anywhere I ask him to go, which is why I'd never dream of abusing that. Obviously.

I like living where I do. As long as I have an airconditioned house to hide in during the summer, I'm happy. We geeks don't get out much anyway, right? ;)

The way he and I see it, by the time it gets to that point, we have a much bigger problem on our hands. After all, if we loved each other we wouldn't resort to emotional blackmail, now would we?

  13. Rikky

Rikky Wile E. Coyote - One of a kind

Agreed,I just wondered my sister in law keeps saying to my brother "If you loved me you wouldn't fart while I'm eating."

She shouldn't use emotional blackmail like that, love has its limits...

This is the time of the year I worship the Freon god(s). This time of the year, the walk in beer cooler is the place to be. :-D

And those plastic things with the water in them they freeze and ship with refrigerated stuff make great coolers. I keep them in the fridge, pop them into the freezer when I get home. In a few mins, I have an iced down back, and a cold beer. :cool

Mmmmmmm cold beer... sounds sooo good right now!

I'll be sure to get some cold beer with my dinner tonight. It's our wedding anniversary, so we're going to a place called "House of Blues" for dinner. With a name like that, you just can't go wrong...!

We can't get any hot weather here in eastern BC this summer. We've been getting clipped by the prairie weather for as long as they've had it. We've had a couple of 27'C days. Some have been just ok, but lots of wind.

Nuh-uh, there was a band. Great food, great drinks (mmmmm-mmojito night!), good times. Can't remember he name of the band--too much mojitos--but they all looked like they could be in Pearl Jam if they were a bit younger, played at least two instruments each, and the singer looked like a young Aretha Franklin and sounded like Ella Fitzgerald, and played the trumpet like she was Miles Davis. Also, they deserve a bigger venue and crowd than they had tonight, they were very good.

    Happy Anniversary to me! :wine

Amen, ma'am! I only go outdoors now when I have no other choice. :-D

We had a dangerous heat index today . . . I know because the news said so -But I can't actually verify that. You'd have to talk to my main man, Trane. Proved worth the money today! ;)

Happy anniversary to you and your fella! :)

Really? I'd take winter any time, no sunburn, no "OMG it's so hot I just want to sleep" and of course ... no tourists, plus snow is purdy and fun to drive in (sometimes) and there's always the possibility you get a day off work because of it :-D
The other reason I prefer cold is when it's cold you can warm up by working/moving etc, when it's hot, you can't cool down without AC and then you get all the stores blasting the AC so temp outside is 45C and in the store is 18C, now I'm sorry but thats not healthy and is the main cause for summer colds..... and lets not forget those damn tourists who don't know how to walk in the street or drive.

    @Mimsy... Happy Anniversary :)

Another warm one today, not quite as bad, probably down to about 28-30c atm (9:25am)

@ Fred..thanks! at last someone bans that afwul winter (at least for now) :-D

@ Mimsy....Happy Anniversary!! sounds likeyu had great time :)

@ Ned.... we don't have tourist in my area :-D, it's totally not fun to walk in because it's COLD, I wont get the day off unless it's a blizzard, cuz they will send someone to come get me and there is only so much I can do at work to stay warm as it's usually pretty cold in here. So.. now do you understand why I hate the cold so? :(

...and that would be how I got my cold. Spent the first 2.5 days of our Vegas vacation cooped up in the hotel room munching sudafeds and Robitussin. If I was going to be sick and stuck in bed, I might as well have stayed home. Thankfully I got better. :)

I got spoiled in Tahoe last week, where it was 85F during the day with NO humidity. I felt mildly warm a few times, but there's always a breeze if not an outright wind, and millions of pine trees for shade. Even when we drove through the Carson City-Reno area to get to the airport and it was 113F it didn't really feel uncomfortably warm.

This morning, back in Michigan, I woke to 86% humidity with a predicted high temperature of 90F (it's currently "only" about 85F). I think I am going to die, and I usually LOVE heat! It's an incredibly rare day when I'll complain about being too hot, but this one's right up there on the suck-meter. LOL

To each their own, but I'm telling you, last winter I worked outside in -27C including windchill, was about -18C air temp and it was blowing fairly steadily and lightly snowing, and I'd take that over this heat any day, although just had a drop of rain and some wind for 45 minutes, has dropped the temp a bit. Aparently this is going to continue for a while, temps of 38C for the weekend... :(

@Mimsy... Glad you're feeling better, are you still there? Or are you home now?
Also... are you rich now? :cool

@ned, i have to be with you on this one. Its socially acceptable to put more clothes on to keep warm in the cold, but when it comes to keeping cold in the warm, people object to the removal of clothes :confused also, i've been sunburnt in winter before, that is such a downer :cry i'm not particularly interesed in summertime

Same here, many years ago. The travel sales agent told us that it would cool off at night and recommended to take a sweater along. :-D We had to hotel hop to cool off but I still couldn't cope and had to take a cab for a block or so. We took a trip to the Hoover dam and plane ride over the Grand Canyon in a supposedly air-conditioned bus which was out of commission and the windows didn't open. The tour guide said... what do you expect in Las Vegas in July? 118 F, we were melting, that's why the tour of the chocolate factory was canceled I guess. Nevertheless we had a great time and all tingling ice cubes started to sound like slot machines by the end of the week. Lots to do there. The desert wind felt the same as opening the oven door. Their buffets were to die for. :drool

    Enjoy your stay Mimsy!! :)

Ouch! The AC in our house stopped working on July 2 last year... two days before the big holiday weekend, and the temperatures were roughly what you just posted. I hope I never, ever, have to go through that again!

I have to giggle every time I hear about AC being busted. I don't have that at my house, nor in most places I work. Well...that's not true, exactly. There is AC at work, but they only turn it on when the public comes in. We have to work without it. :-D

Granted, it rarely gets above 90F and humidity usually doesn't go much above around 75%. LOL

  48. dyamond

    dyamond Imelda Marcos of Majorgeeks

I wish I worked where you worked, my boss always keeps it a crisp 72 degrees and since the temp never drops below 72 in the office the AC is on....ALL DAY LONG. It's SO cold if feels like Antarctica in there! My coworkers and I usually bundle up and drink hot cocoa or go take a walk outside to warm up. If he leaves the office we usually jack up the temp so the AC cuts off and will leave it off until he notices :-D

Is being warm in the summertime, really too much to ask for?

  49. Nedlamar

I don't have it in my house either, or my car, or my place of work.... whats up with that?

I love my AC! Got it at my house, in my truck, at work... Have even been known to shoot in an indoor, air conditioned gun range.-D

105F heat index again today... But, I got a killer deal on a 1.75L of Gin, so Martini's will be served this evening! :cool
