One of your links is invalid in every way, the other one goes to a very clearly biased website. Do you have any objective information to post on this issue?

    Sorry, I didn't realize that!!!

Just saw this recently and thought someone might be interested.

Which one do you see as biased?

    Sorry about that.

    The first one.

And you have nothing to be sorry for. Net neutrality is very important, that's why we need to make sure the sources we link to are legitimate. :)

Got an email from that first one.

That's what led me into this.

Never saw anything useful from them.

Also, if they were secret meetings, how did you know about them. Secret = secret.

Almost like the secret meetings in the anti-nuke compound of Majorgeeks. Which who knows what happens there.

    Yeah, right.
I was just quoting the title of the article.

I think their beef was that certain people were supposedly denied access
and this is supposed to be 'transparent'.

I had not read anything about net neutrality until today.

Sorry if I offended anyone. That was certainly Not my intention!

If I was out of line in some way by submitting that post, I apologize.

    Hi

For one of the links to work you will need to change the ****s to a-r-stechnica but remove the -'s as for many years that url has been blocked ay Majorgeeks, not going into the hows and whys.

As for the meetings, TBH the internet couldnt be controlled by a few ISPs or Gov at all, its a behemoth of its own making now, and if you do add local country blocks then its no better a service than the great wall of China has.

Agreed, for net neutrality to become a serious problem there would have to be virtual 'excuse the pun' cartel incorporating dozens of providers and communications companies and its been shown in the past all it takes is one company who isn't on the coolade to offer a better service for the rest of the industry to fall in line and start competing again.

EDIT I can't stand lobbying though,it happens over here a lot also,it seems vary unfair to me that the businesses that can afford it get the leader of the country's ear.

I agree with your post Rikky, allow corporates to dictate then we will end up with price fixing and that generates no competition to allow the end user a better price for a service through competition.

Indeed lobbying is getting worse over here, has been for many years, just think of the private companies us as taxpayers are bailing out, while they give themselves big bonuses, all due to great lobbying.

As a bit of additional news to the USA story, Ofcom in the UK has kicked off this very topic, last Thursday, but with for once the EU actually speaking some sense! on this subject, see the article below for more comments.

The term "net neutrality" is also, by and large, a buzz term for governments to take more control over, or take control from, private enterprise on the internet.

The internet is doing just fine, thank you, Washington D.C. It doesn't need any help from you or any other governmental agency . . . nor do we net users need the taxes that would result from the kind of "help" you want to "provide."

The internet is not a "cash cow" fix for runaway government spending.

The only government regulation we need is something to prevent monopolies from taking hold . . . and that does not involve a federal TAX.

I sometimes daydream about what I would do if I were in political power and one of the first things would be to decree the internet free from government control and snooping, only in the very serious crime cases should it not be free.

More than creepy. Though it started out pretty innocuous, watch his eyes, especially in the last 25% where he starts talking about the governments role in internet content.

Down and to the left, repeatedly.

    He's concealing and lying.

And wow, five people who can't be fired and control one-sixth of the economy!?? You gotta be kidding!

Scary indeed. In the old days, they/we used to say "the net routes around damage" Maybe some way to route around any government control of speech on the net will evolve...

I see the issue of Net Neutrality is gaining momentum with protests outside Googles HQ

Thank you for posting that Halo, and reminding me that I still need to find a reliable and solid replacement for Verizon in my area. The other providers don't have nearly as good coverage, unfortunately, so it's not easy.

yeah Mimsy, dont think this net neutrality thing is going away sometime soon, and finding good ISPs is hard, mine in O2 is ok so far but I would imagine that the more this topic becomes global the more they ISPs are going to become affected.

And by affected I mean that ISPs will have various classes of users in the future, you pay alot for your connection and you will gain a better service than someone who pays for basic, thus creating a class system for the internet.

Neither do I, but who I sign a contract with and send my money to is the only voice I have as a consumer. It probably won't help, but I don't see why that should stop me from trying. ;)

Indeed very true and one I exercised a while back when Orange lied to me about speed of connection I could get.
