Ho folks need some advice, re a HP pavilion lap top running vista

    long story short ?

Got some malwear called defence centre on my comp which shut every thing down

so reinstalled from disc, every thing seemed to be OK for a couple of days ?

down loaded a drive wiper from here, and ran it to remove temp files and when it shut down to complete the process, it restarted very badly, the cpu was flat out and the comp was getting v hot. Turned it off and left it over night. When I turned it on, the comp would boot up, got so far but just a blank screen with a pointer on it.

So reinstalled from disc again, this time the process didnt complete. telling me there was a fault with a HKEY local machine ?( tried twice)

The reinstall hasn't included the HP set up/ help center stuff, the internet connected icon doesn't work and the clock hasn't reset itself, Oh and the key board has gone to US spec

Some of this is Good, Ive wanted rid of the HP help center for a long time and the rest I can live with

But is there something wrong with,
    My reinstall discs
    My computer hard wear
    or something else

and is it likely to cause me problems I haven't discovered yet

    Any thought or advice welcome

Replace your Vista disc in the drive, and this time , see if it gives the option to repair- some manufacturersdiscs, do not.
    If it does choose repair.
Otherwise, choose advanced in the setup, and then format, and reinstall.
    This will clean up better.

If I could offer some advice, I would seriously start looking at replacing Vista with Windows 7. Vista is frankly just wretched...almost as wretched as watching football in Cornwall.

thanks, ive followed some of the advice in those and turned down the vista effects, switched to classic view and changed to high performance and what a difference, CPU usage has dropped from 70 to 80 % to single figures and memory usage from 50 odd % to 20 odd %, well worth doing

    cheers

It is always good to know it did exactly what you wanted.
Vista can be a good operating system, and by reducing the load, I am sure it will run much better
Although as Motc 7 has intimated Windows 7 loses a lot of the resource hogging that Vista has, as you can see, a bit of tweaking, and Vista can be quite good.
