    I'm using

    1. windows xp sp - 2
    2. dual core processor
    3. 2 mb ram

Does that mean my configuration doesn't support cs4?

You know that XP-SP2 is no longer a supported OS?

Is this a legit copy of the program?

Do you have any other adobe products, such as earlier versions of photoshop installed on your computer?

Go to add/remove programs in the control panel and look for other instances of adobe, which may be presenting a conflict with the new installation.

Another thing to consider would be an upgrade to XP SP3, as SP2 is no longer supported and you are undoubtedly missing out on updates (windows installer, perhaps), which could help your situation.

I have uninstalled photoshop 7 which i used earlier but probably i forgot to remove other adobe programs such as adobe reader which may caused the problem.

yes i have installed the latest version of windows installer but my windows xp sp 2 may have caused the main problem.

Updating to SP 3 would probably help.
