Hello all. I don't know if this is the correct forum to ask this question, but I did look and couldn't find an answer to my question. I have been trying to download an ABP file from Deviantart (brushes tool for my GIMP software). The problem is that my computer does not have a program to open it...I get the box that says Windows cannot open this file without knowing what program created it (or something to that effect). ABP files are foreign to me. Can you recommend a program that will work so that I can install the new tools I need in GIMP? I am operating on Windows XP. Thank you.

    Hi

Are you sure they are not .abr files?
Just remember .ABR files will only work in the latest versions from 2.4 upwards of GIMP and 2.6 is HERE

If they are then to use them in GIMP and its been a while since I used GIMP is you dont open them, all you need to do is to unzip the downloaded files if they are zipped up, then copy and paste them into the GIMP brushed folder.

To find the brishes folder locations, in GIMP click File > Preferences and then in the left hand side menu click the Brushes link, then in the righ menu it will tell you the location of the brushes folders, navigate to them in Windows Explorer and copy and paste them.

Then all you will need to do is to refresh in GIMP the brushes folder.

This tutorial I just located HERE maybe a good pictorial guide for you on the above

Thanks for the response. Yes, they are ABR files, not ABP files. Sorry about that. For some reason, I can't just save the file. I get a message that says "Windows cannot open this file: Eyelash_Brushes_by_xmisslizx.abr...To open this file Windows needs to know what program created it. Windows can go online to look it up automatically, or you can manually select from a list of programs on your computer. Then it asks what I want to do. Going online yields nothing, and neither does bringing up my list of programs.

I watched a tutorial on Youtube on how to download brushes from deviantart.com, but I can't get it download since I don't get an option to simply save the file to my desktop. I am majorly confused!

Hmm, what are using you? Internet Explorer?

Did you tried with other navigator as Chrome, Mozilla?

    Hi

Can you when you click the link to download, dont click OPEN if you are doing that, click SAVE, then choose a location to save, dont use the desktop, try saving in another folder, say My Documents, as I just downloaded this file to test and saves fine, then you need to follow the picture guide I posted earlier to copy and paste the file to the brushes section of GIMP.
