98SE with VX2

I have a unit that has been resting, not sure how long, but had an early version of SpyDoctor and Lavasoft Adware Personal on it.
I ran both programs, SpyDoctor was quick and painless... Adware was a different story (like most of the time).
Adware found VX2. Not sure why, but Adware cannot delete it or quarentine it. I have not tried from Safe Mode as I type and think... :zzz
    Anywho...

Need advice for removing, also if the updates for Lavasoft can be gotten for the version? Would taking the drive(s) out and placing them in my unit with Malwarebytes be a better spin? Or other program(s)?

    Thanks...
    Robert

Since support has long ago ceased for Win 98, there is not much that will still run on that system. Your best bet would probably be to do as you have suggested: ie. slave it to another machine and run SAS and MBAM on it.

Ad-Aware was able to quarentene the VX2. Ran from safe mode it found two instances of the VX2.

I will attempt the secondary drive on my unit. I have installed SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes. Have ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite for antivirus and spyware.

The acronyms are fuzzy, what are SAS and MBAM? I think the SAS is the SUPERAntiSpyware.

SAS is in fact SuperAntispyware and MBAM is MalwareBytes Anti-malware.

Looks like i have those already then ;)

Say, have you read over the Ad-Aware problem I had posted? Downloaded def files and the software gave an error?

For Adaware? Basically we do not recommend that software anyway as it is pretty worthless these days. Plus I don't know if it is still compatible with Win98. It is questionable as to how much protection you need as this older version of windows is probably not a target for hackers these days.
