I have a question. Does anyone make a wireless gamepad for PC that has the long stroke L2/R2 buttons, and turbo like the HoriPad Turbo 3 or something similar? I haven't been able to find one yet.

I have seen a few claims that a PS3 pad can be made to work on a PC,
True / False?? If true, how and does it matter which PS3 pad?

    Thanks, Jerry

PS3 controller in XP or Vista.

    PS3 controller in 7 64-bit.

Disclaimer: I haven't tried either guide, but I read through them and they look legit. The fact the PS3 controller uses a standard USB connection makes it seem perfectly possible to me that someone would be able to write a driver for it. Note that both guides seem to require that you plug it in through USB... which makes sense, the PC won't have a wireless receiver for the controller signal. Since any standard USB cable works for charging them on the PS3, you should be able to use any long cable to connect them to PC for gaming.

Since most games on PC are "Made for Windows" I hate to admit it but the PC Xbox 360 pad works best, compatible with every game that has gamepad options.
You can get the wired (which I have) or the wireless xbox 360 gamepad for PC.

You should be able to find them any place that sells games and stuff.

@Mimsy... I've looked into getting the PS3 pad working on PC, it's pretty tricky and in most cases , doesn't work well. Unless somethings been updated, remember, it's Microsofts biggest competitor, you seriously let something from PS3 work on a PC easily? :-D
Having said that, if you know something I don't, please do tell :)

I know we're geeks, and since we are, we never expect anything to be "plug and play" and hassle free? :p

You read my disclaimer, right? I haven't used the guides, because it would never occur to me to use a controller for a game that was developed with a mouse and keyboard in mind. If I wanted to cripple my control over the game play that badly, I'd just play on a console. At least that way I can sit on my couch.

That said, anything can be hacked, and everything eventually is. ;)

The PC Xbox 360 pad looks similar to the wired Game Elements AxisPad that I currently use. The Xbox 360 Pad EX 2 with Turbo is closer to what I'm looking for, but it's not wireless and doesn't have the long stroke L2/R2 like the PS3 controllers. It seems like I have a little better control with the long stroke button, than I do with regular buttons.

    Thanks for the suggestion

I do have personal experience with using the 360 controller on a PC, and it's very smooth and works very well as long as you install the proper driver for it.

The 360 controller has long stroke L2/R2 triggers, in many ways that was the one thing the 360 pad has over the PS3 pad IMO, the PS3 triggers seemed to be angled the wrong way and very touchy, other than that gimme a PS3 pad over any other pad ever made :-D

@Mimsy... Not sure if you misunderstood me or vise versa, not just the 360 pad, the 360 pad for Windows, it's just plug and play, works perfectly for me. Although with the wireless I'm sure you will need drivers that most likely come with it.
As for PS3 pad, yeah I read your post :p was just saying that I couldn't get it to work and the only way I found that people said made it work just sounded like too much hassle for what it's worth.
Although I'm like you, I only use gamepads for driving games and only because it gives me the freedom and more control over steering etc. Gimme a keyboard and mouse anyday, which is why I just spent $250 on new keyboard and mouse :-D

I was supposed to pay attention to your post? Come on... you know I never listen to anyone. :p

And yeah, I get your point... anything Playstation can be a hassle to get to work in Windows. It usually works pretty well, but when you run into problems, you get biiiiiig problems.

Will any controller that is made for the Xbox 360, work on windows? Are they PnP? I'm most interested in the Hori EX2 Turbo, other than not being wireless, it looks like what I'm looking for.

There are plenty of articles on google about how to get that pad/stick to work, some get it going fine, others have major problems.

This is what happens when you try to use something that was not designed to be used with windows.

If you want to use a conroller flawlessly with windows without the possibility of issues then the best thing to do is to by a controller made for Windows.
If not, then you may get it to work, you may not.
