Hi, I only have two options in my area for fiber-optic internet connection. Neither has worked for me -- service sucks and I'm tired of having to reboot my wireless routers, etc.

So my question is, are there any suggestions as to what type of internet connection I could get that wouldn't be painfully slow? We don't get AT&T DSL, and Verizon and Brighthouse seem to be the only game in town here in Tampa. THEY BOTH SUCK ROCKS! They lie to you when they get you to sign up and then to me -- it's nuttin' but breach of contract. They expect you to pay for services you're not getting but were promised. Not only do they expect you to pay, they'll come after you with a vengeance and try to ruin your credit. I'm about ready to take every penny I have to sue the bastards. PLEASE HELP -- I've tried online searching what companies are active in this area, but no luck there either.

    Hi

Sadly if you only have two ISPs in your area then you are sadly out of luck, unless a new provider comes into the area, those are you only two options.

Fiber should work ok generally so without many more details, its hard to find the issue in what you have done to try and fix the issue to what they have tried to fix the issue, but if you are going at them with the attitude you have in your post above then its hardly suprising they will not go out of their way to help you.

Comcast is in Tampa FL http://comcast.usdirect.com/fl-tampa-comcast-cable.html thats an option, but do know that if they say "upto 20mb/s you may get anything from 1-20mb/s as its the getout clause for folk not getting the max as not everyone will, I'm getting 3mb/s from an upto 8mb/s contract (only paying equivilent of $12per month tho) but I know my ADSL line is on the far edge of the limit for 20mb/s so the ISP I have put you on the lowest contract they have, opposed to charging you for 20mb/s when you can only get say 3mb/s

But with all options it may actually be in your distance to the exchange if its long then internet speeds and connectivity can be patchy, but their are things that an ISP can do in they can lower the gain, it lowers the noise but also lowers the speed but you get a stable connection.

Hey wish you luck sueing a large company as its futle unless you have a class action of alot of customers (not just one or two but thousands).

Thank you so much for taking the time to post. Unfortunately, I had already tried Comcast. The page says they're in Tampa, but when I called AND when I just now tried again online -- they redirect you to Brighthouse. So they must be a Time Warner company.

I'm thinking of just getting an air card -- does anyone have any suggestions regarding those? And satellite for the TV. The quote I got from satellite providers for the internet was astronomical -- $79.99 to $99 and they said if I do a lot of downloading that I wouldn't be happy cuz there are thresholds, etc.

    Thanks so much!

    Cherie

P.S. If you had been through what I have been through with those two companies -- you would have "attitude" too! Honestly, I've given them every opportunity to make it right.

    Hi

Mobile internet is slower than DSL or cable, so you may not like it plus the price is much higher. I dont have an Aircard, but I do have a mobile phone that I can tether to my laptop/netbook and use its mobile broadband, if a good signal I can get around 1.5mb/s download, which is ok for most things.

Many if not all mobile broadband packages do have a upper limit of the defualt supplied MB download you can do per month, some UK ones are 500MB per month, then after that you get charged a fair bit per MB.

Who is your Mobile Operators in your area, I would do a seach on what users think of their mobile broadband.

What is your current ISP? just wish to see if we can do something about your connection with some software tweaks and some troubleshooting the issue... so in this some small bits of info if you can?

    0. What internet package have you paid for? say 8mb/s or if you have a link to the package that would be great.
    1. Whats your Windows version and Service Pack + what browser do you use?
    2. What modem/router do you have?
    3. Is your PC a Desktop or Laptop? and if a laptop do you use Wifi with it?
    4. What security applications do you have installed? please do name all.
    5. What type of speed are you getting? can use http://www.speedtest.net/ but click the Pingtest first and run it and it should mention what the best server for you is, then run the main Speedtest and copy the link here of your test, it should when the small final test window pops up give you the option for Copy Forum Link, click that and paste in your next post with the rest of the answers to my questions.
    6. Do you have any neighbours on the same service as you and what speeds are they getting better or worse than you?
    7. What issues are you actually seeing, is it slow speed, variable speeds and different times of the day to random disconnections?
    8. What if you can remember have your ISP done to fix your issue.

That should do for now ;)

Oh believe you me I have had troubles and fights with some of the UK ISPs and one big one whose future is not that Orange! but now with one thats quite honest and fixes things asap without blaming the end user, have to say if you had O2 in the US you would love them, may not be 100% perfect but they are trying hard.
