    I have Alcohol 120 and Nero (7 & 9).

I am looking to recreate DVDs, duplicate them so the originals can be put back. How should I approach recreating the DVDs?

I know cds can be recreated by making them into an .iso? Correct me if I am wrong. I would like to do the same for the DVDs. I would like to create a file to make the DVD from. I know I can rip the DVD/CD to the pc to play there but would like another hard copy of the object.

    Thanks,
    Robert

    Hi

What DVDs are you trying to copy? Are they retail movie DVDs? If so, they are encrypted, and any copy you make using Alcohol 120 or Nero would not work.

    May I suggest DVDFab, link:

Yes, the discs are going to be movies or exercise. What software were you pointing to? I saw many versions?

    Hi

To be perfectly honest, I haven't copied DVDs in a year or so, so I'm out of date. However, I've heard that software line works well. It appears to me that DVDFab DVD to DVD matches your needs (link: http://www.dvdfab.com/en/dvd-to-dvd.htm ). However, I'm not sure if that can be used for free (they have a "download" AND "purchase" link for it), or if you are willing to pay for a solution.

then it will capture the iso image to recreate the dvd? I am interested in discussing the steps as well, not only for dvd but for the cd as well. we can open this to include the how to portion as well as fav software.

    Hi Break_Da

Again, it's been awhile since I've copied DVDs... so this will likely be a topic better covered by another member here. However, if you checked out the FabDVD DVD to DVD page I linked to, it explains the program features fairly well.

if we can open this thread up to the how to's too that would be great. I did try to create an iso of a program disc cd before but it failed to work.

I use DVDFab. No need for all the ISO nonsense. Put the commercial DVD in one drive, a blank DVD in the other and open DVDFab. It will give you options for direct DVD to DVD copying.
I have been burning just the main movie (one option) without subtitles so I can use the copy in my laptop instead of dragging a commercial DVD with me.

If i wanted the ISO though, I can still use the fab software? or what? just needing some clarification...

My info was for what you said you needed in your first post, duplicating DVDs.
Creating an ISO means that you will end up having to burn the ISO; as far as I can see, doing this adds an additional layer of complexity and lots of extra time to the project.
I have not created an ISO from a commercial DVD so I'm not sure what software you'd need to do that.
