On Saturday, a bunch of us and I went to this craft fair/flea market kinda thing. It was pretty cool! There was guys being macho showing off their classic cars, :strong ladies selling all kinds of goodies (homemade jewelery, food, and other cute knicknacks), and delicious smelling but extremely expensive food :yum. As my friend Chris & I were walking along the various booths, all the way in the back on a the very end of a street corner, behind the booths on a sidewalk, was a huge table full of books and the sign said FREE BOOKS! :drool So I looked at a few but left empty handed as I didn't really want to carry around books for the rest of the trip.

After walking around a bit more, I couldn't deny myself any longer and returned back to the books. I found 3 really awesome books (which are perfect because this is currently what I am studying) that would have cost me quite a few bucks if I had to purchase them.

As I staggered back to my friends, carrying 3 extremely heavy books, another geeky friend of mine, saw me and asked where I got the books, I told him and he took off. He comes back with books similar to mine (his were about servers though). As we piled back into the van and everyone saw what books I had gotten, I was promptly called a nerd :-D

I wish I could have taken more books but I couldn't carry anymore :-o and it was a great day! Does anyone else love free books or get anything else cool for free?

Nice little collection you got there Dya! :major

Being called a nerd, always a compliment LOL I've been called alot worse.

I love books, had a visual basic book given to me lately so that was free. I have also indulged in purchasing many including:

    • The Haunting of James Hastings
    • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
    • The Lucifer Code
    • Beneath the Skin
    • The Red Room

Yea. After everyone has left the pub on a saturday night I search the gaps in between floorboards for stray £1 and £2 coins :-D

I will usually stop by the public Library wherever I am.
Lots of times they have books that have been withdrawn from circulation and free or cheap to anybody that wants them.
Have picked up,why I don't know, several on C++ . Guess I thought of studying it at one time but never found the time.

Oh me too! that's why I wished I could have snagged more. I have bought my fair share of books as well.

My findings make up for the drunken louts not giving me a single tip all night LOL Weekends are slow for tips, which is bizarre considering it's the pubs busiest time

Good deal on the free books, Dy:cool, I would have bought a trolley - done that before. Funny you should say that, as I have scored a lot free books and other stuff down at the Flea Market, including room heaters, vacuum cleaners, coffee/cappuccino machines and heaps more. It helps when I'm friends with some of the sellers, eh;).

I was a geek/nerd long before it ever became a cool term - just how I am. They laugh when they see me (re)reading Stephen Hawking's 'Universe in a Nutshell' or some such. - They stop laughing when they see five luxury autos in my driveway with the money I earn LOL.

nice on dy!!! free stuff is awesome :) i once got 4 bikes for free, and had them all working for less than 50p, and that was because i wanted a bell :-D it sounds like you need freecycle http://www.uk.freecycle.org/ quite a lot of people seem to be offloading books atm, so i've got a whole load of books to read :)

nerd??? i prefer the term intellectual badass :) one of my friends posted this to my fb wall...
'lol at this with me Alice, because I need to share it with someone. On Formspring, their 'question': hello b****, i see your trying to be clever to my friend. its failing.

My answer: Hello, I see you're trying to be clever like me. It's failing.'

(I love the grammar difference) :-D
