I have the Compaq Presario CQ61-411WM. My lapt can have upto 8 gigs, I am running Win. 7 64bit. Currently, I have 2 gigs with 800mghz speed. Will more RAM use more battery?

Yeah with 64 bit you will want at least 4 GB

Looking around it seems like it only supports 4gb ram max.

having an issue trying to find the speed of the ram. Looks like it supports PC2-6400

I would open to ram slot to see how many slots are taken. If you have one stick of 2gb or two 1gb sticks let us know.

I believe I have one stick of two. I had one of those Ram websites scan my laptop and it reported on stick of 2gig and a max of a 8 gig./ The problem was that it did not have my specific laptop to give me any reccomendations. Later, I will take it apart and look.

You're contradicting yourself. If the website did not have your specific model, then how could it tell you your computer supports a max of 8GB?

Compaq Presario CQ61-411WM Notebook PC Product Specifications
says it supports up to 4GB.

Probably because it scans the computer. My computer was too new to make a recemendation

Exactly what "Ram website" are you referring to?

Visit crucial and they GUARANTEE to find ram that is compatible with your pc, at a good price too!

Crucial Memory Advisor™ tool does not list his model. He could try their System Scanner tool. But, again, Kingston is also a good source and has his specific model listed; link to it is in my previous post.

    Hi

Kingston is good, but I personally swear by Crucial as well.

    OP --

Their scanning tool doesn't find all models, but they have a model selection process as well (laptops always have the specific model number on a sticker on the bottom of the machine). Link is http://www.crucial.com .

I have nothing against Crucial but I've used some Kingston memory for years and will swear by it, just as you "swear by Crucial".

And, that "model selection process" is their Memory Advisor™ tool, right? And, we know his model is Compaq Presario CQ61-411WM, since he has stated so, and I've already said Crucial Memory Advisor™ tool does not list that model.
