Can anyone tell me which(if any) Antivirus are downloadable as one block that can be then used on another computer? The ones I have used generally require you to DL a .exe program which then has to DL & Install the data.....
    (hope that makes sense)

    Thanks

Also, What are the pros/cons of going for a lesser known piece of software reviewed by MG over one of the latter better known ones?

    Thanks

    Hi

Some of the lesser known ones are not as lesser known as you;d think, while in the general novice PC user world they maybe, in the tech community they are not and for me one of the better ones and I'm inpressed with the new GUI is AVAST Free, superb app and I have had no issues with is so far. *just need to register for a free licence, it lasts for 12mths and they do not spam you*

I would say to custom install it, which is in install choose custom and choose the scanners you need as if you dont use Instant Messaging or say P2P (peer 2 peer) then why install the scanner for those, just adds more services to use more resources, which is why I like this app as you can taylor it to your needs.

Also review this guide HERE as the info is great as my security is based off the info given from Chas

    Avast
    Spywareblaster
Windows Firewall as Windows 7s Firewall is good coupled with a NAT/SPI router

    backup apps for malware
    Malwarebytes
    SuperAntiSpyware

and the main thing of keep Windows and your apps upto date and safe surf and download.

Thanks for all of that advice.
I have heard of all the lateral ones he originally mentioned. What I meant more specifically was the difference between those 3 and the earlier one; and other programs like DrWeb Cureit which are reviewed on MG but not as well known elsewhere.

    Thanks again.

    Hi

Dr Web and their CureIt app has been around for many many years, early 1990s if memory serves, and while a lesser known one it is also not too bad also, but the main difference with CureIt is you dont need to install it as it wil complement your existing AntiVirus solution, this one is a on demand one and will run when you need it, so in a way a bit like using MalwareBytes/SuperAntiSpyware in their free guises are.

CureIt is basically the scan engine of Dr Webs full blown Antivirus app, but needs updating to the new free downloadable as it renews the full app over updating from within the app as its standalone.

You coudl also try ClamWin Portable, which allows portablity via USB pen to scan various PCs http://majorgeeks.com/ClamWin_Portable__d5067.html
