Not at all computer related, hence the lounge.

    I'm travelling tomorrow, via Delta.

Carry on luggage only, I would like to bring along a multimeter.

Is it safe to assume this would be treated like a computer, put in seperate tray, etc.? Anybody done this?

I would think that yes, you should take it out of your bag and put it in a separate bin. I would do it regardless just because it's probably not a standard carryon item and may look suspicious and they may decide to do a 'random search' on you too if you don't. Looking on the tsa website for restricted items, I didn't see anything like it listed, but you may want to call the airport you are flying out of since I've noticed that they aren't very consistent regarding their rules going through security.

'Suspicious' would be right with all those dials and cables.:-D Make sure it works too and/or have a screwdriver handy to open it up. Good luck.

    Hi BP

I would agree with Laura, take it out anyways and pop it in the bin for scanning as if it goes through in a bag it could look suspicious and its outline may look like something security want to take you aside and search in more detail.

I would have it out, and ask them what they would prefer when you get in line. Sometimes it's not a big deal, other times they want to check it out. I've never had to open mine, but I have had to turn it on to demonstrate how it works to TSA personnel who aren't electrically inclined. :)

No problems brandy! Just dump it in the tray that goes with the mobile, MP3 player, PSP blah blah :) Like augie mentioned, keep the batteries in. Just short the wires to show the resistance:-D

Or have a game and see who has the lowest/highest resistance! :-D

    Thanks all!

Pretty much what I thought, just didn't want to risk losing.

But as far as calling TSA, forget it. Went to their website, and you can contact them by filling out some forms, then submitting or something. It's a government agency, no such thing as genuine customer service!

But I don't anticipate any problems, and I'm a pretty harmless looking individual.

No I wouldn't bother contacting them, it would probably take 6 months to get a response. It wouldn't hurt to call the airport though just to be sure.

LOL the funniest thing is that so is my mom and I swear she gets 'randomly' searched half the time she goes through security. You just want to ask how it's statistically possible. :-D

That's so airport security can search suspected terrorists without seeming to be stereotyping,by taking one for the team she's actually protecting America:major :-D They still stereotype but the suspected terrorist book now balances with the harmless old lady book.

I think you'll get it through your normal luggage NP but not in your hand luggage.

    Thanks all again.

FYI, took it out of my carry-on, put it in one of the tubs, went through security and xray with nary a raised eyebrow or hesitation in the conveyor belt.

Guess they've seen these before. :)

So where did it end up?Did they give it back to you to put back in your hand luggage?

We hope you do as well on the reverse flight.

Logic never applies to the TSA. :p
