So I am trying to get a new computer ready for the big bossman, and the fecking McAfee Agent and the smegging antivirus and site advisor wouldn't push from the server.

Just got it going now, even though I deleted all references of it from the server, no I had to goto detected systems for some reason this time.

    Sweet feck!

I love new computers. I love the beeping sound they make when they reboot completely WIPED and rolled to a reliable OS after I buy them because OMFG who wants any of the crap that comes on them?

McAfee is only slightly less fail than anything made by Symantic. Norton is the tool of the devil. And by slightly I mean it only displaces about one less drop of water when you toss it into the ocean with cement shoes.

One of the reasons I'm so fond of my laptop is that the security software that came pre-installed was not Norton or McAfee. It came with 60 free days of Trendmicro instead, and that program was actually very pleasant to deal with. :)

Mcafee from a corporate level is infinitely better than Symantec products, so I would disagree on the "sucks just a little less" analysis. When you want to centrally manage virus detection and intrusion and site filtering, it's actually quite easy to use and effective, just some hiccups is all.

As I get older, I find want nothing to do with "working with" computers; building them, fixing them etc.

I just don't care anymore and I just want it to turn on do what I want it to do. I can't wait for BIG BIG solid state drives that don't cost and arm, leg and a few toes to help with the HDD legacy issue. It's freaking 2010..HDD's are so 1980's.

True, dat. When S.S.D.'s cost about a hundred bucks for 1TB they'll be worth having. Eventually, solid state should cost lest to make and consequently buy, than our current electro-mechanical gadgets. - Can't wait until the entire PC is solid state, comes to that.;)

Yeah.. won't have to worry about the mechanics dying.. no more crashed drives. But.. I'll have lots of neat coasters floating around when they do come :)

    +1

I agree Kodo, SSDs are superb, quiet, less heat and no moving parts to cause issues, pity is the price, I'm using in one test PC 2 SSDs in Raid0, they work superb and crucify the speed in read and write of my WD Raptors in Raid0.

Once as you say prices get close to HHDs for the same GB, then its worth migrating, and with Windows 7 being geared by default for SSD its a time to think about that option.

But as we know from Windows versions, many do not like the change to something new and sadly SSDs are going to be expensive per GB for a year or so to come, until they are more widely used.

But on target, while Enterpise versions of AVs are good, some I would not deploy and McAfee and Symantec are two I would have to think about more (may do a custom install and remove parts that are not really needed, Site Advisor... no sorry thats something to ditch in a corporate enviroment and use something like Websense if you wish to monitor/block users surfing and www priviledges, much more inclined to punt for Forefront+Endpoint or Panda Enterprise.
