    :wave Hi there, I'm new to all this computer stuff and i think i may be in need of some major assistance. My laptop has been getting gradually worse over the last few weeks and i'm nearly at my wits end, PLEASE HELP!
    Its a Dell Latitude D610
    Intel Pentium M processor 1.73Mhz
    0.99Gb Ram
    Fujitsu MHT2060AH hard drive
    Sony CDRW/DVD CRX835E Cd ROM Combo.
    Windows installer doesn't work, it says it could be corrupted or not installed properly, My Cd Rom isn't working, not shown in My Computer, shared documents and my documents seem to have disapeared too. The Cd Rom is listed in Device Manager but it says the driver may be missing or corrupted(error code 39) not sure what that is. I cant use system restore as it seems the only restore point is from earlier the same day, I also can't seem to open a lot of the files. I could go on all day listing the problems, but these are the main ones, I do hope someone can help. Thanks for taking time to read this.:confused

    Hi, just finished READ AND RUN ME thread and i dont think much has improved. Still no cd rom drive and Windows installer is still on the blink.
    It didn't start off well as i was unable to install java at the beginning, then i was unable to remove Ask toolbar from Add or remove programs. Combo fix also said it might not work correctly as Microsoft Security Essentials was running but i removed that a while ago. I have attached some logs. Hope it can be fixed:cry

    What do you know about these files sat in system32 directory?
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\10001.sks
    • 10002.sks
    • 10003.sks
    • 10004.sks
    • IDPExe.zip
    • IDPSig.zip
    • IDPVer.ini

    You have no antivirus installed currently, and many remnants remain from avg 8 & 9 which we can address before we finish up here. You will then need to install some AV!!

    Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Folder::
    c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Avg8
    c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\STOPzilla!
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\iS3

    File::
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\kgpcpy.cfg
    C:\SZKGFS.dat
    c:\windows\system32\faxpatcho.dll

    Registry::
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\explorer]
    "NoFavoritesMenu"=-
    "NoSMMyPictures"=-
    "NoStartMenuMyMusic"=-
    "NoRecentDocsNetHood"=-
    "NoSimpleStartMenu"=-
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\explorer]
    "NoFavoritesMenu"=-
    "NoSMMyPictures"=-
    "NoStartMenuMyMusic"=-
    "NoRecentDocsNetHood"=-
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB}]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Let me know how things are running! And answer any questions I asked, please. :)

    Hi, I can't thank you enough for your efforts:)
    The files you asked about don't ring any bells but when i open IDPver.ini Configuration settings it comes up in notepad as Identity Patrol. Signature Version = 070917.1 Application Version = 2.0, if that helps at all:confused
    Not sure if much has changed, expect not sure if i'm losing it but i coulda sworn i'd shut it down last night yet when i came to it earlier it was switched on. Can this happen? Oh and i also noticed msconfig was in selective start up, so i reset it to normal,rebooted. When i cheched it was back in selective again:( Thanks again for all your help:)

    Please put this machine into normal start up mode by using msconfig before we continue.

    Ask Toolbar <--- uninstall this.

    Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

    Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
    to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    C:\Windows\system32\Identity Patrol_ErrLogFile.txt
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\10001.sks
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\10002.sks
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\10003.sks
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\10004.sks
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\IDPExe.zip
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\IDPSig.zip
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\IDPVer.ini
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\sk_bho.ini

    Folder::
    C:\Program Files\IdentityPatrol

    Has this issue been solved yet?

    How are things running now?

    :wave Hi, fixme.reg worked fine, used Revo uninstaller to uninstall Ask toolbar and Microsoft Security Essentials which seemed to work fine, although when i ran combofix it still told me it was running:confused:confused also noticed Security centre is saying AV is on:confused.
    Otherwise shared documents and my documents have returned:) no change with my cd rom though.

    That's good. At this point though, I feel you would be better off hitting up the software forum for advice on your CD ROM. I am not seeing anything else here to do in the malware removal forum. :)

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
      related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
        for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
