Why Does Firefox Suck So Bad In Ubuntu?

I've tried the tweaks, I've tried Swiftfox, I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, I've tried everything anyone has ever told me to try. Nothing works. Completely buggy, crashes all the time, hangs, takes forever to close, perpetually loading pages, etc, etc. And this has happened to me in nearly all releases I've used (7th-current) and on three different PCs.

You'd think Ubuntu would be so in-sync with Firefox as to be scary but Firefox works a 1,000 fold better on my office Windows XP PC! And before you ask my home PC utterly destroys my office PC.

    1) Why Does Firefox Suck So Bad In Ubuntu? Why aren't they uber-compatible?

    2) Any real fixes? So far I've been switching to Google's browser and Opera and only going back to Firefox when I need the customized options. I'd like to stick to Firefox but it is terrible in Ubuntu.

    Thanks,

I've had the same problems when running Ubuntu 64-bit, perhaps Mozilla doesn't support 64-bit Linux very well.

Chrome is a good option and Opera beats Firefox is many speed related categories. If they work for you, you might as well use them. However, when I used Opera on Ubunt 64-bit, it crashed periodically for me also.

Can you define what exactly is broken and what addons/extensions you have running?

    Hi

As a workaround or possible option, grab the x64 Linux version of Minefield (its the beta for the next version of Firefox) HERE and see if that works ok for you.

But definatly answer Boredoutofmyminds questions as it maybe a simple fix and an add-on causing this.

    1) It's not just Ubuntu, unfortunately. Check this out. Even though this comic strip bashes all browsers equally, the comments on Firefox show this is not a problem unique to one operating system. Unfortunately, it's Firefox.

    2) Google Chrome is excellent on Ubuntu. You can get Google Chrome - there are 3 flavors of Chrome available if you install via the PPA (stable, beta, and testing). The Stable and Beta versions are amazing and feature full script support, and a massive database of extensions that can be added to Chrome. The testing version can be iffy at times, but is also fairly operational.
