I have a SATA Blu Ray Drive and Windows isn't detecting it, it is detected in the BIOS as is my other SATA DVD drive (which shows up in Windows) I know it has worked and is all connected correctly it just doesn't want to play ball.

Edit, there is power to the drive I can open and close it in Windows.

This was a new build using an Asus P6X58 board. I have a DVD and a Blu Ray drive to start with both optical drives worked fine. Now the blu ray drive doesn't, It shows up in the Marvell raid controller but not in Windows, the DVD does but the blu ray doesn't there is power going to it, and I have tried swapping the data leads, no joy. I changed the Marvel controller from RAID to AHCI nothing. I also plugged the drive in using a USB - SATA cable which worked. Any ideas?

So when you goto device manager and right click the root listing and scan for hardware changes it doesn't detect anything?

So its been working in the past but now has stopped? If so have you made any major changes recently, bios changes, operating system changes?

To check the drives properties go to control panel, admin tools, computer management, disk manager and post what you find, including motc's suggestion.

First I'd set your bios to fail safe defaults to reset any bios changes you have made obviously skip this step if you have lots of custom settings.

What version of windows? In either case try restoring your computer to an earlier time when you knew the drive was working, this doesn't have to be permanent its just to check if its a problem with the OS.

While testing remove your other drive, connect your hard drive to SATA 1 and your bluray to SATA 3 or 4.

EDIT check the support/downloads section at your drives manufacturers website for problems and updates especially firmware, also post make and model of drive.

Can't really move HDDs about that will bugger my RAID up, I did to a BIOS update but I think it worked after that, there is no mention of the drive in device manager, I have updated all drivers from the website. I'll try Scanning for changes and Disk Management tonight.

    Is it Win7 64bit.

    Yep tried that straight away.

    Also tried a system restore.

    and this

'regedit (export your whole registry just in case innit)

    then goto:-

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Then delete the upper and lower filters....

    Reboot and have a look
    '

There is nothing in disc management about the drive

But it still works through my SATA-USB converter just not in either SATA port.

    o.k.

have you tried hooking the other DVD drive up the the same SATA cable and see if the same thing happens with it?
