LOL It doesn't really allow me to do anything, it's just business cards. I've been trying to get the jewelry business going, and this was another step in the right direction. :)

Someone's scribbled all over your cards, Tibbsy. Those damn rivals of yours at Cartier and Faberge :-D
Again, best of luck on your venture, Beth. Hope it turns into all you want it to be.

now that you mention it.. I find that ironic. Why would you scribble your name and number off your business card if you're trying.. to.. er. get business and stuff :)

I knew I'd have to explain that eventually. LOL I'll be handing them out locally (and including one with each jewelry piece), but I don't necessarily need everyone on the internet to know my last name and phone number. ;)

    Awesome Tibbs!

Boys, Etsy is a site largely populated by females of home made goods that people can set up their own little store front and sell their good for free.

Women use it to sell/buy jewelry, crafty things, knitted/crocheted everything, baby stuff, second hand things.. girly stuff.

LOL I love you guys, I really do. :-D

This is a small portion of what I have made (I am woefully bad at finding motivation to set up a photo shoot, so I only have pictures of the pieces I had done as of last November). Not the best pics as I just threw them on the scanner, but you can get the idea.

Etsy isn't exactly free, but they only charge 24 cents to list an item for four months. When you sell something, they charge 3.5% of the sale price excluding shipping as a fee. In exchange for that, they handle Visa/MC charges for you, or you can use your own Paypal account instead. I figure I'll also do money orders or checks (to clear before shipping, of course).

I am so darn excited about this! I tried to make a similar business about 18 years ago but simply didn't have the time to do shows. Now that technology is better, I don't really have to...Etsy will handle it for me. :-D

As for the surname, I wasn't that concerned about it really. The phone number was the thing. I'll look into getting an 800 number depending on how it goes, as the number on my cards is my cell. :)

Go for it Tibbs! I started my own business about a year ago. While I haven't done as much as I would like to since I have a regular job working for someone else, I have managed to make some cash on the side.

Those business cards of yours, you might want to ask some businesses if they wouldn't mind your cards being left on their counters. I got a lot of business that way.

    Tibbs,

Just wondering, what does the IATSE clip you for dues? Certainly you don't need to give them a portion of your own business, or do you?

  21. Sgt. Tibbs

    Sgt. Tibbs Ultra Geek

Oh, heavens no! I pay $68 per quarter as dues, plus 6% of my gross on work done within the industry. Which means work they get me or that I find for myself freelance as a stagehand, but no other types of income. All of which is deductible on my taxes at the end of the year. Both of those numbers depend on what local you belong to, as the International simply sets the rate for dues to them (the locals tack on however much for quarterlies, and set their own referral fee percentage).

    Hi Beth

Congrats I know you have been getting this started for a while, so congrats on getting it off the ground, wish all goes well for you.

I been thinking fo businesses to get going but as my alte ego "tempus fugit" says.... NO damn time!!! I do have ideas just need to get them off the ground, but involved with a few other projects that are interesting to me that others have setup seem to crub my ideas a touch.

But wish you well with yours, sounds an interesting project and do post a few pics of your creations??

LOL Pricing ranges from $10 USD and up, with most everything tending to fall in the $20 to $30 range. Things made of plastic or from beads I can buy at craft stores are cheap, things made of beads from either estate jewelry or antique stores that I can't replace are more. My mission for tomorrow is to take pictures of everything I've got done, so with any luck at all I'll be able to create an album with pricing over the next couple of days. I do have plans for Sunday that gods willing won't end until Monday, though, so it may take a bit longer.

The big thing is that I NEVER duplicate a piece. Which means if someone buys something they are absolutely guaranteed that no one else in the world has one just like it. The only exception to that rule was the one wedding party I did ages ago...there are three bridesmaids somewhere who have matching necklaces. :-D

@ Halo: I know the feeling! The irony involved in my finally getting this going just as I'm allowed to go back to work for the first time in ten months has not escaped me. LOL
