So, I have seen signs that I have a mouse coming in at night. I just saw it come in from the clothes dryer vent. Micky's days are very limited. I am thinking some of that sticky fly type stuff will do him in.

My options are much more open now that Fred is gone. :cool

You mean you don't have a cat? Wow... rig up a camera, leave the cat in the room, wait for the mouse. High entertainment! LOL

I am allergic to cats. Would love to have a mini tiger, but I kinda like breathing... :-D

    Bah... wuss! :-D

I have two. And trust me, suggesting to them that they are mini and not actually real tigers, would not go over well. Except with the kitten. He's a huge wussy boy. He's actually so timid it's kind of sad... makes me wonder what was done to him before he got to us, actually.

    Don't know if I'd call actually seeing the mouse a "sign" .. I'd say it's a certainty :) Go git'em :):major

The 'signs' were gifts left by said soon to be dead critter. I now know it's point of egress, and since they generally follow the same trail in, I should have him on sticky paper in 24 hours or so.

Take a crap on my counter, yeah, will kill you. :-D

Might toss a little rat poison out in the yard as well.

I am fully on your side there. GROSS! :eek

Also valid cause for full-out retaliation. Kill that thing! :major

Clorox cleaner with bleach every night for the counters, and he will be dead after I hit the hardware store in the morning.

It is on. I love to see the rabbits and the deer and occasional fox outside. But, when they come inside, it is on. Enjoy your night little mouse. For Saturday, you die. :major

Once again I agree with you. Once they enter my home, they're fair game. :)

Ya, the sticky traps usually work well and not so messy as the regular mouse traps, especially when sometimes the meece get their skulls smashed in. I hate that. Just resist the temptation to blast away at the varmint with some of that artillery you have, man.:-D

I prefer traps with peanut butter packed inside the tongue. Gets them clean every time and doesn't torture the thing either.:)

What, I can't use the shotgun on the mices? :-D

Funny video Sikvik, but for traps, peanut butter or pecans work very well. Makes 'em fat and lazy... And dead.

I'm against animal cruelty but in the case of mice, I could care less if it gets tortured.. disgusting creature should know better than to come into my house :guns

The first thing that came to my mind-

    1- Fred has guns

    2- Fred occasionally enjoys wine

    Blam!

    oops!

I'm sure that technically it's perfectly possible to do it... :innocent

Rocket launcher might be a bit overkill though. LOL

Got Gin, Scotch, Rum, and Whiskey in the cabinet also. And Beer. Don't forget Beer! :-D

Also keep a few jars of responsibility around when using the arsenal. ;)

Hmm, I do seem to recall .22 caliber 'rat-shot'. Shot little lead balls instead of one bullet, that would have some potential...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rat-shot Nice, they still make it!

I still like my ambush sticky trap o'death plan.

Ahh, peanut butter flavored (well is what it said, I ain't licking the dang thing), Rat and Mouse glue trap is set. I may have read this before, but mice don't see well, so they tend to run along walls to 'feel' their way around with their whiskers. :cool

  22. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

Mission accomplished. Said rodent is trapped on the glue thing. Kinda feel sorry for the cute little one, until I remember it crapped on my counter. Generally, from 10pm untill 8am is the 'quiet' time for civilized people. I shall dispatch him around 8am. No point in him suffering.

One of the benefits of living in the country is nobody really worries about a .22 being fired. :major

What's this "glue thing?" Never heard of it.
Why waste a slug, drive out a mile and release the poor mite.
You may just catch a pheasant on the way :yum

I'm envisioning a super glue kinda thing. What happens? They get stuck? Peanut butter LOL

  27. hrlow2

    Think "fly-paper", only for mice.
Laugh if you want, but peanut butter is much better as bait in a trap than cheese.
Mice just seem to love the stuff. (Can't really blame them. I do to.)

  28. Fred_G

Mices love peanut butter. :-D There were a bunch of kids over at my neighbor's pool, so I went medieval on him and dispatched him with a machete. I did not know it was legal for kids to be out and playing at 8AM...

May have to glue several of these together and put it by the door so no kids try to get in. :-D

Well Augie, I looked for the Disney magical mouse transporter trap, but they were fresh out. No luck on the Skittles and Rainbows PETA approved mouse removal unit.

I do agree that the pest be killed, not allowed to die a slow death. Nature is cruel as well. It could have had it's body pierced with fangs, venom injected into it, and slowly swallowed alive... This mouse just went into the wrong house.

  34. augiedoggie

augiedoggie The Canadian Loon - LocoAugie (R.I.P. 2012)

Don't get me wrong Fred, I do what I have to do every November too, usually 7 to 10 a season until the weather gets real cold and they have made their nests. As to nature being cruel, the snake doesn't worry about much besides a meal. It's not being 'cruel' but using the only tool that it has to incapacitate it's prey. Is a boa constrictor less cruel to suffocate it's prey first and then swallow it?

We are better tool makers so we have options and we can empathize with the pain or fear the animal may have. I'm not a PETA freak but sticky pads and leg traps for larger animals are extremely cruel IMO.

  35. Mimsy

While I in general agree that one should never be cruel to an animal if there are other options, there's a simple cost-benefit analysis on what options are the most effective ones here. Trapping it and then killing it rather than allowing it to suffer seems a fair compromise to me.

Mice do have homing instincts, and big families. Yes, there are catch-and-release traps that don't kill the mouse, but if I was in Fred's situation and I was to use one where I live, getting rid of one single rodent that severely threatens my health by defecating in my kitchen would turn into a full weekend project. It's a 5-hour drive for me to get to a spot where I can release a mouse without doing so close to where people live, not to mention that I'd have to spend at least a day or two researching how to get hold of a trap like that and use it.

Then again, I wouldn't need to, since I do have two cats. I would just put them in the kitchen and wait. We were on the subject of a gruesome slow death at the mercy of a creature more interested in amusement than meals, weren't we...? ;)

Was just joking Augie. I thought the Skittles and Rainbows PETA trap was kinda funny. :-D

Speaking of the glue traps. They are NOT to be taken lightly. My sister had a mouse one time, and bought a couple of these, catch and release traps. Needless to say, she caught the mouse, I happen to be staying with her at the time, and the mouse died a slow death. Being the humanitarian I am, I trid to remove the kicking, squeeling moues from the clutches of the evil glue. :( It actually started removing the poor animals skin. I tried oil, powder, peanut butter, everything I could think of to get it free.

Between the two of us, The Guy and I counted at least four brown recluse spiders (or spiders that look a lot like them) in the front yard and back yard earlier today. They migrate into houses when the weather gets colder, which will be in a few months or so. We're now investigating spraying options... :ban

  41. Fred_G

Watch out for those things Mimsy!!! A mouse is a nasty pest, but those spiders can cause a LOT of tissue damage!

  42. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

And that would be why we are looking into spraying options. I read up on those spiders and they are just flat out scary! :eek

Just a couple of weeks ago an exterminator company was going through our neighborhood, ringing door bells and dropping off business cards, and I'm considering calling them now. It depends on what I can find at my local Lowe's. They have a very well furnished anti-pest department... :guns

I wish I had taken pictures of my spider outside. I think I over feed him. :cry
My little girl and I use to catch moths and throw them in his web. He was huge for a porch spider. I caught a writing spider when I was a kid, and kept it for around 6months, it made 2 egg sacs, died, and the next spring, millions or baby spiders! ;)
