Windows XP: Third party app hijacking wireless connections

Hi folks. My issue is a seemingly simple one, but it's been bugging me for two weeks.

something else is managing the wireless connections on one of the Pcs at work, and repeatedly connecting it to the wrong network. I uninstalled a few apps related to network management that seemed to be the culprit, but it's still happening.

I know how to fix the problem.
view wireless networks > advanced settings > use windows to configure

but the issue is that whatever other program is hijacking it, keeps taking control again every time the machine is logged in. It's getting annoying.

there's nothing showing in startup apps through ccleaner that could be the culprit, I think.

Does anyone know if there's some registry key I can change/delete to stop this happening, so that windows retains control? Windows knows what it's doing and connects to the right one. (I'm in an office building with a few hundred wireless networks)

It's most likely the software that comes with the Wireless card that is causing the issue.

Do the following and post back results:

    1. Start
    2. Control Panel
    3. System
    4. Click on the "Hardware" tab.
    5. Click on the "Device Manager" button.
    6. Look for "Network Adapters" and click the plus button to the left.
    7. Post back all results under Network Adapters.

Please also post back what brand, model of computer you have. Once I have these details I should be able to help resolve your issue.

Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller (used for wired ethernet)
TP-LINK 11b/g Wireless Adapter (this is the one, I'm sure)
VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter (the problem predates the installation of this)

The machine is a Dell Dimension 2400. Motherboard is 0G1548

I would like to use windows. but the adaptor's app is taking over and doing it itself. And doing it WRONG!
As i mentioned earlier, I know how to do the stuff to fix this. It just won't stay fixed because the other app keeps hijacking control of the network device every login.

This isn't going to work because windows isn't controlling it on startup, this third party application is.

I did uninstall it already but it seems to be persisting. So the help I'd like, is pointing to specific parts of the registry that could be causing it to constantly relaunch, and how to disable them.

I'm wondering if windows is automatically installing the other app, even after uninstalling, like using windows update? it may be tied in with the drivers of the adapter.

you might want to check out revo uninstaller, it will completely remove a pesky app.
