Sometimes when I try to remove programs it asks for adminstrator privelege to delete the stuff. There is only one accoun on the computer and it has admin status. so when the prompt comes up i just like accept but sometimes it deosnt go and says i dont have that privelege. Idk what to do or why my computer does that.

Such as when I try to uninstall the ask toolbar. which i heard was a securty threat to your computer.

Post your operating system and post the exact message, does it happen with just the ask toolbar or all programs?Post examples of other programs it won't let you delete.

The Ask toolbar isn't a security threat its just a toolbar with a search engine,it can be a PITA though as its often included with other software and is installed by default when you forget to uncheck it,that's if it's the genuine Ask toolbar and not malware,do you know how it was installed?Do you have an Ask toolbar in your web browser?

What security are you using, firewall, anti virus, malware protection?

idk how to post that stuff but it just says on a prompt "you need to be an administrator to preform this action" then an ok button. When I hit it it goes to the same prompt again. It doesnt do it with all programs but with a few I dont remember their names.

I dont know how it was installed but it does come up on my internet explorer bar and i can diable it just not uninstall.

    i use firewall protection.

Try running internet explorer or whatever browser you use in administrator mode and see if that helps with uninstalling it.

    Hi

To find your Operating System, just right click My Computer/Computer and choose Properties and the page that pops up will tell you this info.

Can you boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) and choose Safe Mode, then try and uninstall an application, do you get the same error message fo needing Administrative permissions?

Personally but without more information and as you have mentioned to us you are in the admin account, I would do as Rikky mentions and run some antivirus scans and our malware forum hs a guide I will quote below to follow, if any of the scans find malware then start a new thread in the malware forum and attach the logs requested and our malware experts will assist you. Reason for me asking for you to run these steps is many new malwares do remove admin permissions from a user account, all in order to prevent you removing the malware.

Thanks heaps, pwillener. I fell for the "Ask Toolbar", despite saying no. Now I know why some programs are insisting on "Admin rights" and still don't work, Like Zone Alarm, for instance. :cry

This part quote is from http://www.calendarofupdates.com/updates/index.php?showtopic=16253 as pwillener posted.

    Thanks again.
