Removed viruses, still slow

Someone brought me their computer & said it's running slow. I ran the READ THIS scans & removed some items, but the performance didn't improve much. I removed as many programs and startup items as I could from the HKLM:Run, HKCU:Run, and Start Menu:Startup folders, still not much improvement. I suspect there's something else happening here. Here's my logs...

Other than the minor adware which was remove, the logs are clean. It does not appear that this PC is having malware problems.

Please explain what operations are slow! For example answer the below:
    • Is boot up slow?
    • Is shutdown slow?
    • Is browsing/surfing slow?
    • Is downloading slow?
    • Is running any/every application?
    • Is it also slow in safe boot mode?
    • Also are any processes showing in Task Manager to be using a lot of CPU time?
    • Anything else slow?
Why are there 2 Windows XP boot partitions showing in boot.ini
Is the second one a bootable recovery partition?

It boots slow & starting up any of the programs seems sluggish. However, once the hard drive settles down, things get a bit better. Task Manager doesn't show any significant CPU usage & the pagefile graph looks fine (the line on the graph is toward the bottom).

The user just said she noticed this problem after an application was installed. It said the minimum requirements called for 1GB RAM. That's all she has currently installed. I'm going to plug some more RAM in & that will probably take care of it. Thanks for your help!

Too many people are too impatient and should just learn to wait a few minutes for all the junk that they install to load. Otherwise they should either uninstall what they really don't need or at least disable the many things that do not need to be loaded at startup. Like all of the below are common things that are candidates for removal. Obvsiously you need to check with the end user since some people do like certain features (like toolbars or other startups) but if it were my PC, they would be gone. ;) Also, AVG9 is a resource hog. Installing more RAM can help, especially when RAM is below a minimum of 1GB and it still would be a good idea to upgrade to 2 GB; however, it will not change the fact that lots of items are loading at startup and this is why it is slow to startup.

And you could also fix the below since they are just dead registry entries.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: Secure Online Account Numbers Helper - {435EAA86-D32B-484F-869C-53745FCB1642} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: Discover deskshop Browser Helper Object - {8DB3D69D-DA5E-4165-B781-72A761790672} - (no file)
    O3 - Toolbar: Secure Online Account Numbers - {A8C7C2CA-6DFD-4E16-8458-592361564D38} - (no file)
    O23 - Service: LiveShare P2P Server 9 (RoxLiveShare9) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\9.0\SharedCOM\RoxLiveShare9.exe (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
