I didn't see a forum for printers, so I will ask here.

Any good links to where I can find parts for printer repair? I have searched but most searches send me to stupid toner and cartridge places and this is NOT what I need. In particular looking for a glass piece on a Brother MFC-7840W, the small piece that covers the scanner. It got scratched and now all scans come with a dark line down the middle... stupid staples. ;)

No, it wasn't me. Customer's printer... trying to save it if possible.

    Hi

Best to try Brother, but in all honesty, change the Printer for a new one, parts will far outweigh the cost of a new one in 99% of cases.

Yes, is what I told them and (according to last night's email) what they are doing. In the meantime I figured I could get them a price on the part, then add labor, so they can understand the point.

For some reason they always think you are selling them something, although I don't sell printers. Go figure... ;)

Who runs documents through a feed scanner with the staples on anyway! rolleyes

You could get a piece of glass and have it cut to the size you want, so take the old one out and measure it.

Look in your local directory for glaziers, the one I know they will do cuts for a couple of bucks like £2,you could phone them and ask for a small off cut laying around and see if they will cut it to size.

May be worth the effort if you can get someone to cut it cheaply enough.

Good point, Rikky - I actually did this for an older flatbed scanner after its glass was broken . . . it was a fairly simple operation. I didn't notice any problems with the scans after that, but granted it wasn't being used for fine detail or important work, just run of the mill photos.

I did find this place, which advertises it has replacement glass, among other parts, for scanners, etc.

Find a shop that repairs copiers and see if they have a source could work.
