It seems I have all my music files in a gazillion different places in my computer and I am wondering if there is a program I can buy that will consolidate them into one folder and if that is not possible what is the easiest way to consolidate them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried searching My Computer for All files and folders named
    Code:
    *.*mp3
    ?

Just Ctrl-A to select them all then drag them and drop them to the folder of your choice. Of course if you have games or certain other software installed that use .mp3 files then you will want to exclude the Program files directory from your selection. Also, the procedure for searching varies a bit depending on which version of Windows you're using.

Black Dahlia, why *.*mp3? I would search for *.mp3 without the second asterisk.

Yeah, manually dragging and dropping the files into a single folder after a *.mp3 search query on the hard drive(s) is the quickest way.

If you merely want to access the files from your media player (eg. WMP), just add the entire hard drive to the 'library', WMP will then scan the drive and add all the suppported music files to the library. Then from within WMP, you can sort and 'remove from library' (without deleting from the hard drive) the files that you don't need in the library.

    Hi

Also, MP3 isn't the only music file extension, so you may also have to do a search for *.wma, *.flac, etc. to find ALL of your music (and repeat the CTRL+A, drag to folder technique).

Yeah, sorry, old habit from Win 95 days. Back then a file named e.g. "Happy.Birthday.mp3" wouldn't show up with the one asterisk. Two asterisks still work, though.

Thanks to everyone for the help. I seem to have it under control now. Thanks again!
