I have a friend that had his Laptop died. He was using Outlook Express or Windows Outlook for his e-mail. I can pull his hard drive and look at what
is on his hard drive. Would anyone know where Outlook Express or Windows Outlook stores the e-male or how I can retrieve it?

    Thanks

The following helped me when I had the same problem.

Outlook Express vanished from the Start menu, but the program still existed (clicking Start, Run and typing msimn.exe got it going). Likewise, Windows Mail disappeared from the Vista Start menu, but remained accessible (as winmail.exe).

    Hope it helps.

There is no such program as Windows Outlook. There is Microsoft Outlook but that is part of the Microsoft Office suite, so likelihood is it will be Outlook Express.

The OE files are by default kept in -

    C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{long Hex number}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Convenient isn't it? rolleyes Anyway, if you are able to navigate to that folder it will contain a lot of files all having a .dbx extension, and they contain his emails. If they can be copied to a new folder on another machine running XP then OE on that machine can be configured to use the new folder as its message store and the messages will then be accessible. The files can only be read by Outlook Express, not by Windows Mail or by Windows Live Mail.

If the files have to be copied to a machine running Vista or Win 7 it should be possible to use the default mail program on that machine to import the OE files, the method varying depending on the email client being used.

In most cases providers simply answer from a script rather than dealing with your specific problem, wasting both your time and your money and getting you nowhere.

As you are new to this thread, if you would like to provide a bit more info about what you are trying to do we can probably sort out your problem.

It's no good trying this and that in the hope something will work, but there is a simple way of sorting this. In setting up the second account just use exactly the same server names as those in the original account. The only things that have to be changed are the name of the account and the email address on the General tab, and the account name and password on the Servers tab.

Let us know how you get on.

When putting in another email address, do I have to do any thing different and do I put the @ in the email address, where the <snip> and <snip> go thanks for your patience.

Where it asks for your email address, you must type your full email addy including the @

Then you should type in your password.

Incoming Mail Server should be: pop.embarqmail.com
Outgoing Mail Server should be: smtp.embarqmail.com

Here is a walkthrough specifically for Embarq Mail: http://embarq.centurylink.com/embarq/refDocs/user_guides/internet/HSI_outlookexpress_Guide.pdf

In the future, you really should not put your email address on website forums. They can be harvested by spam bots.

On the General tab, if the email address for the first account has the @etc then you must also put it in the email address for the new account, otherwise leave it out. On the Servers tab, for Incoming and Outgoing Mail, just repeat exactly what the first account has.

I'm assuming that before trying to set this account up in Outlook Express that you have actually been onto your provider's website and created this additional account and that you are able to access it by webmail?

EDIT - I see LauraR has given you what you need.
