Interesting what a decade can do, isn't it?

I saw this picture floating around twitter today, and I thought I'd post it here. It's pretty remarkable how far things have come in only 10 years, really. Anyone else have similar comparisons?

I was joking with someone at work the other day about his EVO being faster than some computers there. Now there is talk of a triple core phone processor coming out.

Yeah its very interesting to see how tech has progressed through the ages and in some parts how quick it changes, we all likely know Moore's Law and how quick CPUs change in power and size, but following on from Paxton's pic

Mobile Phones (Cell Phones) have changed alot from not only the size but the fuctionality that they have, originally they just did calls, now some are like mini PDA/Computers.

It is amazing how techknology has progressed almost all electrical gadgets have got smaller except TVs they have got bigger.

    * 10 years ago today, I was still backing up files on 3 1/2 inch floppy disks. I had boxes full of those things. (And, sadly, I still had 5 1/4 inch floppies in my possession that I was saving “just in case” I ever needed those old files. Pathetic!)

    * 10 years ago today, I did not own an i-Pod, or any other sort of portable digital MP3 player. I was still hauling a box of CDs around with me everywhere I went and playing them on a bulky portable CD player that skipped whenever I bumped it. And I was still years away from downloading my first song or album online.
    * 10 years ago today, I was still occasionally listening to cassette tapes in my car.
    * 10 years ago today, I was still using a crummy analog cell phone that had ZERO options outside of just calling people (and I had to manually type in every single contact on the numeric keypad. But hey, that old StarTac sure looked cool at the time!)
    * 10 years ago today, I was still driving to my local video store to rent movies, and some of them were on VHS tapes.

Most of us here remember those days.
    Things have certainly progressed.

Yep, nowadays, kids can't even do their homework unless their parents can afford a computer. Ten years back 700MHz was a fast C.P.U. now I have 6 cores X 4.2GHz, or thereabouts. Ten years from now, I'll 'prolly be smiling at such low specs.;)

I miss a phone that simply rings. Audible speakerphone and power to not drop calls.

    ;)

Ten years ago today the world 'The West' was doing O.K,we weren't involved in any Multi billion dollar wars and the banks had money.

Over here I can't believe a conservative government has been voted in and we're now facing the worst public spending cuts since the second world war.

We had hot summers and cold winters at the right time of year.

I can't help but wonder if this is the price we have to pay for our modern lifestyle and advances in technology, kinda seems that way.

If you'd have told me a black guy would become president ten years ago I would have laughed.

I still had hair I could watch fall out and people had the politeness to come up to me and tell me I was going bald!

    Ahh the good old days:)

to be fair, whatever party got in there would have had to be cuts. not really a surprise about the conservatives - labour was seriouly unpopular compared to 2005 and lib dems had no chance to win.
The cuts, really, we just because labour spent years spending money they didn't actually have. it was good to get a change in government, imo anyway.

back on topic (sorry for the rant) another thing... a decade ago we were all saying that the 21st century would be amazing, yet people still go on about 'the good old days':confused

I wasn't blaming the conservatives for the cuts I just wouldn't have believed the conservatives would have been voted back in,in 2000.

To be fair its a world recession and isn't really the fault of Labour either.

EDIT ITS BUSH! 'just for Fredg' :-D

For you young ones, a decade may seem like an eternity. For me looking back, I can't believe that over 6 decades have come and gone by and have seen and experienced an awful lot of changes, some good, some bad.

From sharing roller skates with my siblings and friends as a young kid, we've gone to sharing stories on facebook etc. I think that kids nowadays are missing a lot by not being able to play with a lot of friends on the street. The tricks that the boys played on the neighbors are a delight to remember. :-D We girls ... giggling of course. :-D With all this advancement in technology, rising crime rates, I think that (young) people in general are more lonely nowadays than we (old ones) in our youth.

There's a young lad who lives a couple of doors down about 11 and one day he was just in the street with his friend kicking a football onto a wall,I said alright and he replied "Alright but bored." I said "Why don't you don't you go down the forest and build a fort or something." He replied "What forest?":confused

I couldn't believe it,from the age of about 7 till mid teens we'd lose whole weekends in that forest 'which is about 200 yards away from the street' and similar ones close by building bases, swings, death slides, climbing trees, shooting bb guns ect. ect.

I don't know what's changed, either kids don't venture away from the house much any more due to virtual games or parents are too paranoid to let them.

Bit sad really.maybe an isolated incident though.

More than 1/2 of my growing up was on the riverbanks or in the woods.
Same for my brothers and sister. Tomboy from Hades.
Wasn't any girls her age around to play with, so she spent time with her 3 brothers.
Football (full contact. Not no touch for her.) Heaven help you if you tried to slack off because she was a female.
Baseball and softball.Fishing. Building tree houses.
