So, there were a couple of grandmasters braggin' about their exploits on their way into a hotel...

They were Two Chess Nuts Boasting by an Open Foyer...

Anyway: what's the best move (White to move)? Answer will be posted tomorrow...

    Good job, sikvik...for the uninitiated: Qh8+!...(KxQ, NxR+, etc...)...Petrosian-Spassky, Moscow 1966...

I'll crank up another one asap, make it a little tougher...

    ;)

I think this is better to weaken the position of the black side-

    Q to C7
    QXQ
    RXQ

    correct?!?

@BOMM: 1. Qc7 QxQ 2. NxQ Bxb4+ opens up too many possibilities for Black...

    I'm still studying SV's Rdf1...

Cali, thanks to what you started- I've gotten a headache :-D
    Now you wanna play :cry
We can kill of the queens (not elegant) but you still get my knight.

Yeah, White has to make a bold decision - and here it is:

    1. Rxg7!! fxe5
    2. Rf7+ Ke8
    3. Rxe7+ Kf8
    4. Rf1+ Kg8
    5. Rff7 Resigns

The game was Mikhail Tal vs. Boris Gulko, 1969...Tal was an attacking genius - I use his games often to illustrate how to formulate and sustain attacks...

Just played this game at Chess.com - came up with a pretty neat combination.

This takes me back some 20 years when I played a lot. At least I got the first puzzle quickly, trade quenns @ Q-H8! I don't have the patience for mid-game analysis anymore. I had Chessmaster 2000 back in the mid-80's running on my 286 6MHz machine, the game was on a pair of 5 1/4" floppies.:eek I never could get past level 5.:cry I even had several books but life interfered in the study of the game. Only names I remember these days is Fischer, Spassky and Ruy Lopez of all people.:-D

I have an account at chess.com, I'll see how badly I can still play.:wave

Haha - I never could figure out how to say that: is it pronounced Roy, or Rew-ee, or Rye, or what? :confused

My favorite Fischer quote: "Chess is taking someone's ego in your hand, and crushing it."

Rew-ee sounds right by me. Jeez man, you guys should know better than me but there's many that call him Rye too. :confused

Wow, tons of videos on youtube! I'm surprised that they have chess there for some reason. I should know by now that almost everything goes there.

    Ok, time's up.

    From the starting position (post #14), Black plays 1 ...e5! 2. dxe5 Bxe5 3. Bxe5 Rxe5! 4. Nxe5 Qd2++.

    Cool, huh?

This reminds me of a couple of former members here that played chess in these forums a 6-7years ago. They posted their moves but not the chess board. It was interesting to watch.

    Greetings, Ken3.

That would have been fun to watch.
Chess is an addicting game - I find myself spending way too much time on Chess.com - free and easy, with a very good board interface.
