In the Process,I Found that the Router IP(192.168.1.1) is not seen/accessible from System Which has Static IP 192.168.1.3 .
Here's the ipconfig /all details as well as other details.
Motherboard is a Asus p5gc-mx/1333 with
    Atheros/Attansic L2 100mbps Card .

Are you sure the router is on the 192.168.1 network?
When you did the static IP you left out the Gateway - the router, if your right 192.168.1.1
    Also missing DNS servers.

Do you have a DSL/Cable "modem" and a separate router in your setup?

Re: winxp:can't connect to broadband in bridge mode(pppoe dialer);can't ping router i

    Hi,
I was not Configuring a Router based Connection.I use dialling from WIndows dialler with broadband userid+password to connect to internet.I am not using Router Configured as Always ON Connection. But, I cannot get connected to broadband using windows dialler as it shows Error "678".
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=146815&d=1286585672
So, I was thinking, that even when I assign a static IP of the same class and tried to ping router IP , it is not responding; While Everything Works Fine in Gnu/Linux.

Is there a issue with the MAC Address of the Onboard Lan Shown in My last post:
MAC address shown is : "ED-0B-00-00-E0-00" Is it Valid?
Is LAN Card configured wrongly in the system?(I've installed the proper driver and it detected fine).

I have only a broadband router which is connected to telephone network which connects through a splitter and works on pppoe .

So change the setting to obtain IP automatically.
Did the ISP assign you a static IP?
Describe the devices and wiring of you connection, pls.

Without a gateway the remote computer will not be found or able to respond.

Re: winxp:can't connect to broadband in bridge mode(pppoe dialer);can't ping router i

dhcp isn't useful as I am on a stand alone system.so, no dhcp enabled.
the pppoe broadband works on the principle that I have a userid&password which is Verified using CHAP protocol to connect from the Broadband Core Server. Each time System gets Dynamic IP's.No Static IP.
I feel the LAN Card MAC Address is confusing and feels wrong:
on Gnu/Linux, the mac address assigned seems sensible:
    From Gnu/Linux:
    Code:
    HWaddr 00:x:xx:00:xx:xx
So, I think Windows Driver Fails to Configure the Lan Card Properly? This is a Mainboard with ATHEROS L2 Card.I googled and found that these cards *earlier* seems to had a lot of problems both in Windows and GNU/Linux.

Regarding How this Broadband system works:
I'm on a 2mbps connection .I have a land line-aka Land Phone(Wired). The Broadband Router gets the Connection from a Splitter Which distributes one line to land phone ,another to the Router. The Router is Configured as BRIDGE MODE.Which Means I don't Configure the broadband username&password in Router to Automatically Dial and Connect(Always ON Connection).
Instead, I dial from the Operating System be it Windows or Gnu/Linux using the pppoe Dialer Which is configured to dial with the userid+password everytime I need to Connect to Internet(and Disconnect).
I hope this explains it. :)

    Thanks.

Re:winxp:can't connect to broadband in bridge mode(pppoe dialer);can't ping router i

    **SOLVED**
    **SOLVED** :)
I found some Results with the MAC Address "ED-0B-00-00-E0-00" Issue for this Motherboard - Asus P5GC-MX/1333 : <snipped out link with horrible WOT score>

I had a Slight Idea of Changing MAC Address. But it was Confirmed by above Link. And it Worked!Yes!I can now connect to Internet in Bridge Mode(dialing from Windows to Connect).I used "Technitium" Mac Address Changer and Assigned MAC Address for Atheros L2 Suggested(that utility can assign random MAC Address) 00:13:74:xx:xx .Now Router can "See" the Lan Card.Actually, the Router seems to be having an "issue" not accepting MAC Address "ED-0B-00-00-E0-00".So , I Hope This Thread Will Help Others also.

So, Now This is How My Networking Looks:

Re: winxp:can't connect to broadband in bridge mode(pppoe dialer);can't ping router i

Are you sure the router is on the 192.168.1 network?
When you did the static IP you left out the Gateway - the router, if your right 192.168.1.1
    Also missing DNS servers.

Do you have a DSL/Cable "modem" and a separate router in your setup?
