I do and I think most of today's mainsteam music sucks. I think It's about profit and not music.

    Who agrees with me?

Sounds familiar to me. My mother used to say something similar while me being a teen. That was in my teenage years of Elvis, Bill Haley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Cliff Richard, the Beatles, etc. THAT was music!! :-D :-D Today's youth must be thinking the same as I was in my youth. ;)

But yeah, in a way I agree with you re today's music.

At least you could understand what people were saying in those days.
Today it's more like a screaming contest to see who gets the highest decibel level
    Noise pollution, plain and simple.

I agree to some mainstream music sucks. Iam in my 20's but I like all kinds of music and think each section has good/great songs. Old school to to newer stuff. And one thing I always joke around about was I could become like (some heavy metal) bands and just basically scream into the mic and once in a while say a few words. Now remember I like some heavy metal stuff so don't take it wrong you heavy metal lovers. But some stuff just plain sucks and it doesn't start and stop there.

Maybe not 'today's music', but there is certainly a variety out there.

I don't buy the music these days, heck I got YouTube! ;)

Do you mean the Top 40 Zach? That has always sucked IMHO since the early sixties when dad first got a radio. First time I heard 'Puff the Magic Dragon' too but on another station.:cloud9 It was great when FM came out.:)

No, the radio was an AM/shortwave Telefunken. The song has always been lovely sounding to me, even today. I think I'll pull it up on YT right now.:)

What was good about FM then was that they played the real music of the day that I liked, Pink Floyd, Cream, orchestral and classical etc... and started as 'non commercial' stations funded by the AM crap stations ATT and some still are ad free.:) This is Canada eh?:p:-D

LOL, here's the modern answer to all that crap from the freaked out populace who thought that 'The Sky Was Falling'!:) It's actually one of the most non-violent kid's songs that I've ever heard. Cold war/commies/drug crazed lunatics was the norm then eh?

Compared to what/when?The mainstream music industry has always been profit driven and usually all the music sucks.

Music can now be shared "freely" which is great for music as only talented people will get paid doing gigs because there's no point putting a girl or boy band together that ticks all the profit boxes.

The internet also makes it easy for new talent to broadcast and distribute their music without pre approval by the a profit driven music industry for the first time EVER!And computers can do almost as a good a job as any expensive sound studio.

I think its beautifully democratic,if your good word spreads in cyber space you get booked for gigs you make money as a musician, what we had before 'and still do to some extent' was a music aristocracy where a few powerful moguls decided who was good based mainly on what would sell.

    Hmmm? I think that's it,rant over...

Think? I know. 99% of todays music is 'manufactured' look at the trends, it was boy bands. The bands all followed the same theme, a bad boy, a clean cut pretty boy, the hippy, etc you know what I mean. Now there is the GaGa, Ke$ha types, we had just about all manner of groups. Do you think the record company told AC/DC that Angus had to go, he just doesn't fit the mold we are looking for? Heck now the artists are picked from tv shows. I gave up on music a long time ago.

No reason to give up on music, just give up on the Top 40. There's plenty of good stuff around.:)

    I like mainstream music! :p

Not the stuff where they bring the kids from tv shows and turn them into singers who can't sing, but a lot of the others...yep.

I love DMB, Nickleback, Matchbox 20, 3 Doors Down. Hell, I even like some of the Black Eyed Peas.

What I don't get is the crap that people listen to that is a cacophony of god awful sound that they call music. Like Marilyn Manson. Sorry...that's not music. Omg...I sound like my dad, but its true.

if you think about it, the golden oldies that people say make old music better is actually just the cream of the crop. there is plenty of music i'm sure that could remind the older generations of really bad music tastes ...'it was good at the time...' ;) likewise, there is some good modern music, and plenty of stuff that just shouldn't have been made

When i was young our parents thought our music (rock and roll) was rubbish (they were used to the crooners) so it is not surprising we have the same opinion of todays music.

My main complaint is it all has the same construction of a heavy bass beat and they find a sentance and just repeat it over and over.

I suppose i have now turned into my father rolleyes
