Mozilla Firefox Hijacked or Virus?

About three or four days ago my Girlfriend did a Google search for a comparison between various camera lenses (all done through Firefox). Upon selecting one of the links in the search results she was redirected to a porn site.

We eventually tried to uninstall and Mozilla Firefox however, it would not allow us to uninstall it from the "add remove programs" in control panel. I then made a big mistake and deleted the icon from my Programs list then removed the icon from within "add remove programs" when the option presented itself stating "it appears this program is already removed do you wish to remove the icon?" After running Advanced Systems Care Pro version, I then restarted our brand new ASUS pc and attempted to reinstall Firefox.... the response is the same all three times I have tried. The fresh download of Firefox from Major Geeks states that the install file is "Corrupted" and this will not install.

Additionally, I have noticed that I cannot disable the Elan Smart Pad mouse software. In short even when my USB mouse is plugged in the mouse pad refuses to be disabled... this was not a problem until the issue with Mozilla Firefox. Now while typing my cursor jumps everywhere....

We have a brand new ASUS 17.3 inch screen (N71vN/N71vG - series) with a Intel Core Duo CPU - P8700 2.53 GHz with four Gigs of RAM. Windows seven home premium version (64 bit operating system) - all legit and licenses paid for in full. We are using the free version of AVG for an anti virus (9.0).

I hope someone takes pitty on me here because I can't afford another one. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for reading...

Maybe it's my writing style... but I didn't mean to be inconsiderate or rude... I am here with hat in hand asking for help. That having been written - I really don't have enough education on this subject to "know what to think." Thank you guys... you've always been very helpful! Really.
