Has anything ever been put online you wish wasn't there?

Obviously this is online so you don't have to be liberal with the details just as much as your comfortable with.

Ever Googled your own name and ACTUALLY:-D found your name and address or details somewhere that's freaked you out?

Has a company or organisation you've had dealings with been lax with your personal information online ?

Has a friend or acquaintance turned malicious and posted something online to try and do you harm?

I've never Googled my name and I'm not gonna start now I prefer ignorant bliss:cool Also to my knowledge my personal information as fairly secure.I guess we could argue till the cows come home as to whether we deserve privacy in the information age,I'll go as far as to say I think we do but I'd rather stick to stories of occurrence.

Nope nothing personal with reference to my real name or personal info comes up. Well it kinda does, except it aint me :-D. As for 'The Phantom' the super hero and Rolls Royces is about all you'll get.

 

No, but if you Google search "Major cake licker", Google comes up with a heap of TimW antimalware posts.LOL

 

I am able to be found online in a few places. A big one is not the net but radio advertising. My ex-boss when I left his competitor and went to work for him he thought it was the greatest thing. He advertised on a country music station in the area (that I would never listen to.) It actually said "xxxxxx the home of ISACA expert 1-600 winning installer XXXX XXXXXX. blah blah, repeat" The way it sounded is like his shop beat Alpine, Pioneer, JBL, etc in the expert class, which is mostly manufacturers but me and my old boss took them all down without sponsorship.

If I Google my actual name, nothing related to me shows up until about page 85 (yeah, I was THAT bored one night). However, if you get into my screen names there's a ton of stuff. Not so much this one, although there are a couple of things on the second page, but the other one I use frequently is all over the place.

 

I just Googled my name... it came up with some guy who used to be in the SAS :strong
So I don't think I have anything to worry about.... who's gonna mess with me :strong

I just plucked up the courage to Google my own name,checked the first 20 pages or so and found nothing,I also found out my name isn't anywhere near original and quite a few people share it which makes me feel common and unoriginal :cry

A story that happened to a someone I know which I believe I've mentioned before-Recently a list of BNP members was leaked onto the netz,the British National Partyis basically a racist organisation and it turns out one of my old friends is a member:confused He still lives in my village but I haven't spoken to him in a few years to see how its affect his life,I had no idea he was racist or at the very least has such extreme right wing views,I also don't know what to do now I know this fact.

A famous notable example is this,a guy sold a broken laptop on Ebay in the UK then refused to take it back,unfortunately for him he didn't wipe the hard drive so everything on it has been posted on the internet by the guy who got screwed.

Amir has stated to newspapers that his life has been ruined,it seems to me he kinda deserves it he was also wanted by police for selling a broken phone on Ebay in the same manner.

:-D i'm the 5th picture result for my name, not recognisable, but still awesome, then not seen again. i was quite surprised by this i thought due to facebook more would come up, but next to nothing there
when i searched web pages there were quite a lot of results :-o but it turns out there are loads of people with my name mostly american or irish, quite a lot of the results that were about me were sporting events, so no proper details

its kinda creepy to find so much stuff out there.

@rikky - you would be just as bad as him if you avoid him because of something that was published on the internet: he's either tried hard to hide it from the people he knows or that isn't the true him. don't judge him based on something he didn't want you to see

I never put anything online with my real name, the only thing that is real is my pic here. Why oh why do folks put up their real names on the 'net, damn idiotic IMHO!:eek

 

I don't get that either Augie,there are exceptions such as when your the owner of a website or your expertise is in the public domain but a general user such as a on a forum seems quite risky,all it takes is for one person to take a disliking to what you say and they can punish your from afar giving you no recourse route.

I'm really private when it comes to my picture too,probably overly paranoid private, I've never put my picture on a computer let alone the internet and have tape over the webcam on my laptop :-D

I think I'll put a picture on here soon in the short,fat and bald category:-D

 

Yup Tim, and the predators depend on that! :x They can get one's location very easily, like school pics etc. with other hints and eventually put it all together. Me, I don't really care as if someone comes over here that I don't like, they can feel the keen edge of my axe! :boxing :guns:-D No guns here though.

I google my real name and come up with some totally unrelated person with the same name. Which is awesome.
