How to get Win XP3 up-to-date ISO?

    Hi all.
I've been searching the net for the latest xp3 iso, unmodified clean
with no extra intergration, well in short words, a M$ Official up-to-date XP3
    Home and PRO.
I have found some sites that I can download from, but they didint have the latest ISO and/or not IE8 and WMP11.

I can intergate my self using Nlite, but I figured it out that it would be quicker
for me to just download newest ISO.

I have both Home and PRO key's for my home PC's
and I just started in a job where I take old and new PC's clean them, uppgrade them and make sure they run smoothly, and resell them
    to the less fortunate.
And using a sp2 disk and having to download SP3 + all later uppdates takes alot of time.

So I was hoping some one knew of a site where I can get this ISO,
that does not require registration payment, and is respected and clean.

However you create or obtain the ISO you want, if it is your intention to install it on more than one machine, and for resale, then you are seriously abusing your licence and I doubt anyone here will be prepared to offer you any assistance.

Dont jump onto conlcusions with out any knowledge of what you are talkin about.
The Computers that I fix have the authenticated sticker key on them, nothing
illegal there, I have had few PC's that didint come with a sticker key and I sold them OS less, as I have no intention in breaking the law.

And if you didint know, it is not illegal to have a win cd and use that cd
to install windows on multiple machines that have the neccesary key sticked on them,
if that was illegal then "all" repairing PC shops and large buisneses were
breaking the law. It's legal as long as you have the Orginal Win key and use it only once.

On the other hand you can also get a key from M$ that you can use to install
on PC's and give the user 30day's to test the system, or allow the reseller to sell fully installed and updaited PC to a future M$ OS purchaser.

  4. Earthling

    Earthling Interplanetary Geek

Machines with a product key attached to them have an OEM version of Windows for use solely on that computer. That does not entitle you to install a different version of Windows in its place.

I think we are all well aware that licence abuse is rampant in the repair and reconditioning trade. That doesn't make it right.

  5. Just Playin

You're asking where you can download the MIcrosoft Windows XP installation disc in violation of Microsoft's EULA and most countries' laws. It's not unreasonable to question your intentions. However, since you do intend to install licensed copies on these PCs, you shouldn't run afoul of MS. I'm surprised you didn't find what you needed on any of the larger Bittorrent sites but you won't get much help here finding one as the site owners wish to keep things respectable and law-abiding.

P.S.- I'm surprised your not installing Ubuntu or another Linux OS on your unlicensed PCs.

  6. playman

    playman Private E-2

I never Said that I would install any other os or anything different on the machine, if that particular machine has XP home I will install Home on that machine, if it has PRO I will install PRO on that machine, there is no law braking
    in doing that.

There is no license abouse going on @ my workplace and that would not be
    toleratet in any way!

If you would have read my reply your comment would not have been needed.

Unfortunatly I havent read the UELA trough completly, but I know that full win OS's ISO's are distributed on behalf of M$ just by looking trough the M$
website you can download almost complete OS in parts.
as also i've heard that technet.microsoft.com offers downloadable ISO's,
I've been searching there and I'm completly lost in all those files that are offered there, and becouse I lack some English it's even harder for me.

I've no intention in breaking the law in one way or another, and the company I work for does not allow any lawbraiking in one way or another, as it's run by the redcross, church, townhall and some other organisations, and is
intended for ppl from age 16 to 25 that have gone the wrong way in life,
and here they get helped with work and get some money for that and tought
    how to work.

I've searched the torrent world, but unfortunatly I've only found OS's that have been tempered to much with and or have had viruses in them,
therefore I've decided to get me a uptodate copy of Win and intergrate it my self
    as the time passes by.
And that copy must come from a respectable source, as I would not feel right by selling PC's with infected OS's.

I've thought of installing Ubuntu or any other free OS's but most of the buyers either dont want them or come back to me to install another OS or teach them on the OS's, and unfortuneetly I dont have any time for that.

So yea, I dont belive my question is not in any way encouraging Pirating
or missuse of the Win OS.

Purchase copies of XP Pro and Home. You can then use those discs to install on your other PCs with their COAs and product keys and save the purchased COAs for future use. Keep in mind MS may take issue with your employer's activities regardless of your collective intentions.

That's is some amount that the company I work for can't afford,
and I've asked my boss about that purchase, and he said that would
be out of the question, since I allready had XP home and PRO.

I talked to my local Computer company, according to them I'm allowed to
own and get "by any means" OS CD and use that to install on any given pc
that has the orginal cd key on it. (but not allowed to bypass the WGA in any way)
They were able to give me a CD with Home and PRO but they only have SP2
on them, since I have orginal CD's with sp2 on them I didint need them.
They are M$ official partners (or sumthing like that)

And that's the way they do it, that is, they have a copied CD wich was given to them by the M$ in my country and use that CD to install on all
PC's they either sell or repair, and my company is not any different then theirs, eccept I dont sell new PC's but used and old, wich that have been cleaned
    and uppgraded when possible.

But if i'm completly wrong about all of this do by all means correct me.

  14. Earthling

    I'll leave that to Microsoft.

    1. GRANT OF LICENSE. Microsoft grants you the following rights provided that you comply with all terms and conditions of this EULA:

1.1 Installation and use. You may install, use, access, display and run one copy of the Software on a single computer, such as a workstation, terminal or other device ("Workstation Computer"). The Software may not be used by more than one processor at any one time on any single Workstation Computer.

or is that not clear enough? rolleyes

  15. playman

    playman Private E-2

You don't have to buy a new CD for each computer - you need a separate
license and keycode for each computer
From the EULA, it is for one computer per license. You can do a quick search
of the newsgroups for more information on XP licensing, as it is asked at
    least 4 times an hour

Read your Windows XP End-User License Agreement:

Start > Run and type: WINVER , and hit enter.

It clearly states that you may only install one copy
of Windows XP on just one computer. You will
need a new license (Product Key) for each new
installation on a different computer not a new CD.

    From the EULA

Storage/Network Use. You may also store or install a copy of the Product on a storage device, such as a network server, used only to install or run the Product on your other Workstation Computers over an internal network; however, you must acquire and dedicate an additional license for each separate Workstation Computer on or from which the Product is installed, used, accessed, displayed or run. A license for the Product may not be shared or used concurrently on different Workstation Computers.

    Is that clear enough?

  16. Earthling

    Earthling Interplanetary Geek

I have no intention of entering into a debate with you about the rights and wrongs of what you are doing, and neither do I have any brief to help protect Microsoft from license abuse - that's their problem. Yet a part of me hopes they will somehow discover what you are doing and deal with you appropriately.

This is About Win7 but still basic EULA should still apply right?

This should nail this disgussion regarding the one cd per PC.
I've also asked M$ a question regarding this "debate" about using a single
CD on multiple computers that have the required key, just to be 110% sure:cool

There fore after surfing through the M$ site and it's forums i've come to the
conclusion that using ONE CD on MULTPLE computers is not against the EULA
or law, there fore I dont have to worry about M$ dealing with me "appropriately"

Earthling, before you start talking about something you clearly have no idea

These are the best answers you will get. There are not a whole lot of options for getting the disc or their images for free by legitimate means. I would bite the bullet and slipstream the SP3 and beyond updates using the discs you have. Sometimes you just can't get what you want and you have to make do with what you have.

Some tension in the air? any way.
could you direct me to that direction then?
as in how to intergrate the SP3 along with the lates small patches.
I've been successfull at intergrating the SP3 onto SP2 disk with Nlite, but
don't get how to download and integrate the small patches. (with out using the microsoft update site(automatic updates))

I've only done it once with Windows Unattended CD Creator and that was primarily to integrate SATA drivers.
You can try the nLite forums and/or wait for someone here more experienced with nLite for advice.

What I find a bit ironic is that the 1st post said it would be faster to download an ISO than to simply build one with nLite. This thread was started over 24 hours ago, I know a full WinXP SP3 build with WMP11 and IE8 can be created to an ISO file in less than 2 hours with a DSL/cable internet connection, nLite, an original Windows XP install CD or ISO, a bit Googling to find a post-SP3 update pack (I know RyanVM has one but it may not be totally up to date), and a good on-line how-to guide.... How is spending 2 days talking about downloading an ISO faster than actually building one from 'scratch'? I don't get it....

I was under the impression that you can use any disc to install as long as it is the same version that was supplied on the machine and use the key on the side of the machine. I have slipstreamed discs with sp3, drivers, and .NET so just a few updates need to be applied once installed. I have a home and pro xp disc that I use to reinstall on borked machines for people (using their key.) I 'thought' I was going it legally. I have seen this discussion on many forums with yes and no answers. They all activate ok.

Humm maybe the M$ police will be after me.

  25. playman

    playman Private E-2

Well this would not have taken so long time, if not this post had staid on it's
course, rather then getting turned into debate if my install methods are legal or not. It would have been a quick post if I had gotten
what I wanted in the begining or directed in the right way towards my goal. RyanVM does not have up to date patches (atleast last time I checked)
I was able to create a SP3 disk but still needed to download about 80 individual patches +some more after the first update.
As my MS enginering aint so good I have no idea what patches I need for
multiple computers, find the ones I and need downloading them into a folder.
Sure I might sound that I have great english bokabulary, but honestly I lack much english. ( lol that was a awful sentence) therefore I use the forums to
talk directly to ppl that have "more" knowledge then me, and point me out in the right direction.

Well you are right, you are allowed to use a "single" cd on multiple computers
as long as you install the same version as was intended on the computer and
use it's sticked on win key. Ppl are misunderstanding the EULA.

The software they are talking about is not the CD but the activation key.
Why they make it sound like that beats me, but many EULA's are writen like that so many ppl misunderstand them,
like in this situation they are encouraging the unliterate ppl to buy more then 1 CD rather then buying the key online and using the same CD instead (cheaper).

In my research on the net i'v found out that using just one CD and the COA
of the computer case does not breach the EULA or any law.

You can check you the official Microsoft support page regarding that matter
almost every 4th post has that question.

  29. dlb

I was not referring to the 'debate' of the legalities of what you're trying to accomplish. I was referring to the fact that if you had simply done a bit of research online, you could have learned how to build your own complete XP SP3 install CD with ALL the updates included - there's a bazillion guides out there for this kind of thing. If you look on today's MajorGeeks front page, you'll see there's an ISO download available that includes all currently available updates. True, this is not exactly what you're looking for, but you could extract the ISO to its core files, use nLite or the RVM Integrator to merge the files into your custom build, then go from there -OR- simply download all the available updates using something like Windows Update Downloader to get all the updates in one shot, then merge them in to your custom build.

As for the legalities of all this - I have no idea what's legal or not legal when it comes to building a custom install CD.... I have built my own WinXP install CD (and a Vista disc too but that's a different thread that I'll ignore ;) ) that includes SP3, Adobe Reader, WMP11, IE8, Flash Player, RVMs post SP3 pack, and a few other things. I used a MS factory SP2 disc as the source, but I don't try get around licensing. I use the CD to save time when reloading an OS, but I always use a legit LEGAL product key and always activate as required. If I don't have legit legal product key, then I don't even start the install, but I don't think this has anything to do with the ORIGINAL question about building a custom install CD with all the updates slipstreamed....

It is perfectly clear from the wording of the MAR (Microsoft Authorised Refurbisher) scheme, linked to earlier, that using your own CD and a COA obtained from the machine being worked on is not legit, and shouting won't alter that I'm afraid.

What part of MAR (Microsoft Authorised Refurbisher) dont you understand??
to be a MAR you have to be accepted by microsoft and use their program only.
That License does NOT! cover none MAR personel.

Meaning if you are not in the MAR program you can take that license
and put it where sun never shines.

    MAR program is only for

Well if you all cannot play well together then topic closed and start a new one if need be.

Basics are if you have a legit key for a Windows version and then create a slipstream to include XP SP3 and any updates to WMP, IE etc then your fine as the original donor PC has the legit key as the keys are not CD specific but software specific.

OEM PCs well you may not be able to use their keys with a slipstreamed disc, works for some and not others as the donor OS is a retail one over an OEM one and they are different! so be careful of that, OEM licences cannot be transferred but Retail can be, so long as they are not in use on multiple PCs at once.

nLite shoud be fine for your usage, you however will not find a legit XP with SP3 ISO for download unless you have TechNet or MSDN account, you will have to build it yourself from the XP version you have and imbed SP3 and any other app updates you wish, to create an ISO default build.

if you where talking to MS tech support then they are just contractors and not employees unless you have access to the development team of a particular app, the tech support opperatives play off a crib sheet.

Thank you wery much for that info Halo.

I knew about the OEM and retail license, as for me I have now CD's for all major
PC retailers with all versions from 98 to xp, we dont get alot of vista computers
or none at all :-/ so there's no need to have them lying around.
I got them from the dealerships and I have to integrate some of them, so I know
they are legit and malware/virus free Installs.

How I got them? heh :p I just went to wisit them and told them what I was doing
and they said then it was ok for me to get "master" CD's from them.

well I guess I better freshen up my Integration skills since I have alot of work
    ahead of me.
I just noticed to day how much damn bandwidh i'm using, it was getting pretty
exspensive having to uppdate all those PC's.

I had no Idea about that Halo, I thought MS techsupport were MS official employes, not contractors, You always learn something new;)

    Hi

Yes sadly you have a small task in creating master ISOs for those various OEM and Retail versions, to get them to a SP3 and various apps status, but its worth it in the end. I would advise using CDRW disks only for the reason they are reusable.

nLite should help you in creating these disks, its a great app.

with Intergration remember to save bandwidth grab if you have not already the network install version of SP3 HERE (large download but saves downloading it multiple times)

Can also if you search for them get most of the other MSFT apps in their full format.

    Interesting thread.

So from reading all the replies, it is safe to say that when you purchase any Windows OS, you can only use the product key and installation cd on one computer then? As to transferability, I guess you can only transfer retail, not OEM, licenses to another computer.

There's been several instances in the last 2 years where I've have had to do a clean install of XP. However, I have an HP PC (obviously with an OEM installation of XP) and when i first purchased it, it never came with a recovery disc, much less an XP OEM one.

So instead of paying $40 + shipping to have HP send me their recovery disc, which happens to also install a bunch of outdated crapware that takes forever to uninstall, I went on a torrent site and downloaded a SP2 OEM CD. Worked like a charm. Rather spend the time downloading updates than removing crapware anyways.

After all, when we buy a copy of XP, in essence, we are only paying for the product key. When you go to a store and see an entire shelve full of copies of XP, the only difference between any of them is the product key and whether they are retail, upgrade, or oem versions.

As for the original poster, he is simply trying to do the same thing as I had to do, except for the selling part. Clean installs on pcs with presumably authentic and working products keys on their COA.

For Microsoft to state that if we ever happen to lose, break, or damage the original CD that came with our installation, that we must buy another copy of the XP cd (and at the same time, needlessly buying another product key) so we can do a clean install, is pretty preposterous.

    My 2 cents.

Say a friend of mine is moving away and he gives me an old computer he had sitting around in his basement collecting dust.

I decide to clean it, do a clean install of XP using the legitimate COA product key on the back of the that pc, and install an antivirus and firewall. Then since I have no real use for it since I have a pc and a laptop, i sell it on craigslist to some random person for a hundred bucks.

This is something that occurs thousands of times a day via Ebay, Craigslist, and via mother means. People selling their pcs for whatever reason.

Its obvious that , in general, one product key may be used on only one computer, but I don't think the person who owns the computer has to remain the same.
