Thought I'd be honest with everyone.

I work for a show called Champions of Champions Elite on G4TV. It features Muay Thai fighting. I was wondering if anyone here is familiar with it.

    http://coc-elite.com

We're going to be showing last years' Kings Cup on the 22nd too:

    http://community.coc-elite.com/video/246/Kings-Cup-Promos-30.aspx

If you have heard of it, do you like it? Would you like to see more shows like it? Do you enjoy Muay Thai? Any feedback from you guys would be much appreciated. I'm a real person and, unless I get banned, I will be coming back to read/answer replies. Thanks!!

To the mods - If you interpret this as spam, by all means delete it/ban me. I apologize if I'm causing trouble.

Let's see where it goes. ;) Though I am not sure why you would want to post this on a computer tech board.

We're trying to reach out to EVERYONE. You never know who might be interested in something like this. Afterall, no one suspects that mild-mannered Clark Kent is Superman... My co-worker and I were told to ASSUME NOTHING when it came to getting the word out about this show. I thought I'd take a gamble and see if any "tech" people might have an interest in Muay Thai. :)

Thanks for being so kind. I'm really not here to cause trouble. Just want to get the word out, see who is (or isn't!) interested in the show, and answer any questions there may be about it.

Not my particular bag of fun, but who knows, other members may be interested. ;)

I'll keep my fingers crossed! Considering that Champions of Champions Elite isn't JUST a "fight" show--it also has documentary-style footage about the fighters & the history of Muay Thai (as well as "how to" tips)--we're hoping it'll appeal to a broader audience than just the "jock" and "bro" cultures that sports programs are usually associated with.

Hmm eve, I guess your G4TV is not my G4TV which actually does talk about computers and video games. This crap ain't my 'cup-o-tea' either.:puke:-D Steroid free zone here.:p

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Is there anything that would make you more interested in the show? We've actually had a lot of positive feedback from the people who play fighting games (Mortal Kombat fans in particular for some odd reason), but it seems that you don't fall into that category...

Is there anything in particular that turns you off about the show?

Again, any comments are appreciated; even if they're negative.

EDIT: I thought I should clarify something for everyone: I do not work for G4TV. I work for the production company in charge of Champions of Champions Elite http://coc-elite.com

I've just seen a brief sample of the show with Cosmo and it's MMA like we have here. I have absolutely no interest in watching this type of combat though I do enjoy Judo. I'm outta here!

Thank you for your insight. We obviously need to work on how we're presenting the show! There really is a lot more to it than that. I'm definitely going to pass this information along. Have a good evening. :wave

For those of you who might be feeling a bit "sketch" about clicking onto the Official website link (we've had a lot of comments about it being called "coc-elite" and how the landing page--and I admit this is very true and I wish they would change it--looks like a porn site), I thought I'd post the link to our Official YouTube channel:

    http://youtube.com/user/COCEliteOfficial

There's not much on it (yet!), but I know some people are a lot more comfortable clicking a YouTube link than a link so somewhere they've never heard of.

I'll be checking back to see if there are any more questions/replies. Again, any feedback is appreciated! Thank you.

Who would believe that someone that used to "beat" people up could act?
The Rock, John Cena, Bill Goldberg, even the Undertaker.
The plot lines and shows they put on can be comical at times.

ooooh.. this looks like the most promising, new, martial arts competition I've seen in a while. Most of the stuff that comes on the martial arts channel is 10 years old and the fighters are lame.

I would love to see MT displace boxing or at least compete heavily with it and go more mainstream. It can be done.. just look at what MMA has done. If you style it like the MMA shows (without the locker room, highschool, girlie drama), You'd have a mature show :)

Position: been involved in MA since I was 8.

    **** yes! :strong

I'm now sad that I didn't see this earlier. :( Surely there must be a website somewhere that will stream past episodes to me?

As for why Mortal Kombat fans like Muay Thai, I'm going to take a stab and suggest it has to do with the fact that the reason we like the Mortal Kombat games is because of the unabashed, unashamed, straight-forward sheer brutality of those games. Yes, we. I'm one of them. :p We like the blood, the gore, we like the ability to freeze a person solid, shatter them with a kick to the torso, and watch ice-shards of intestines fly all over the TV screen.

Muay Thai looks very similar when you watch a fight. Knees to the chin, elbows to temples, and kicks to the sternum... none of those techniques was invented to peacefully disarm one's opponent. They were developed with one one thing in mind: To either kill or cripple, and to do so effectively and quickly. From that point of view, Muay Thai is unlike any other modern martial art in that it still comes across to an observer as having maintained the focus on the martial side of it, rather than the artistic.

I'm with Kodo... this is promising and awesome, and I need to find it and make my DVR record it. And then I will watch the fights and be happy. :)

eveinthewind, if nothing else, you have at least won one more subscriber to that YouTube channel of yours... I like Tum Madsue. Fearless and aggressive is a good combination in a fighter. :)

+1 But been big fan of wrestling ever since I was young. Went to many shows, bought a lot of stuff, watched all the different types of shows. ECW, WCW, WWF, WWE, TNA, and the names they were before hand. But to me the story lines are getting bad(fan of 80's and 90's more). Now we got a bunch of bad story lines IMO and got more of a talk show then a entertainment show. Even got people on there that shouldn't be on there.

But back to the topic. Its alright of a show. I watch and like the bigger companys like UFC and MMA and HD fights but its just not eye grabbing to me to watch that show.

  18. Rikky

Rikky Wile E. Coyote - One of a kind

What I'd like to see in all fighting styles this included are fights based not on weight but on height.

The lighter weight fighters are always trimmed down lean to fit into the lowest weight category they can make and this causes a problem because only the heavyweights have any muscle or power.

If you think about it all of the lower weight class fighters are stopped from becoming the best fighters they can as they don't want to get stronger and gain weight because they'll have to move up a weight class.

If the shorter fighters could become as muscular and powerful as possible the fights would be much more exciting and many more of fights could be decided within the first round with some harcore knockouts.:dood

Put it as an idea to your production crew :cool

I'm opposed to Mimsy's quote of your post because the shorter fighters will have an arm/leg length issue compared to taller fighters unless they're knuckle scraping Neanderthals even though the weight is similar, still why not open it up and let the best one win? Why have any weight categories at all for that matter in MMA except for the wrestling part of it?

I'll probably lose in this discussion as I don't watch this stuff but thought I'd throw this out there for you pugilistic types.;) I've seen skinny folks beat the crap out of the heavier set in bar brawls just because they're quicker.

    Wow! So many replies!!

First of all, I would like to say: THANK YOU!!

Second, I would like to apologize for not responding sooner. I'm only allowed to post about work during work hours (M-F). I would have responded much sooner if not for the weekend!

I'm very excited to see so many posters interested in our show! (And thank you for that insight on the Mortal Kombat fans!--I admit that I haven't played since MKII came out and the "violence" in that is a bit laughable next to today's standards!) This is wonderful news! And extra thank yous to those of you who subscribed to the Official YouTube channel http://youtube.com/user/COCEliteOfficial or the Official Community http://community.coc-elite.com

I'm going to try to answer/respond to comments in sections just to keep everything organized (I'm sorry if this ends up being a little long):

    The FIGHTS Themselves

There's not much we can do about the fights themselves. Especially in the case of the Kings Cup. They're already recorded and ready to go.

HOWEVER, if this show is a huge success (if people watch it on G4TV and/or visit our website like crazy), then the big-wig muckity-mucks over here are going to do ANOTHER show (they're already in talks--the finalization of the deals depend on viewership/support of COC-E) and they also intend to do a series of Live Fights around the California area with local fighters AND some of the major WMC fighters. All of the fighters on Champions of Champions Elite have agreed to come back IF this show is a success and the new show/live event(s) is greenlit.

So, if you love the show and want it to stay on the air--or if you only KIND OF like the show, but really want to see the NEW show/live events--then please watch the show and keep helping to get the hits up at http://coc-elite.com

    The SHOW Itself

The next episode of Champions of Champions Elite is going to be shown on October 22nd (this Friday!) at 8pm EST. Check your local listings for when it's showing in your area. G4TV is doing something screwy with the times since they're a "duel" Network. Basically, if you have Cable, it SHOULD be showing at 8pm no matter where you are. However, if you have anything else, it's going by timezones. I know...It's like you need a GPS to find our show on TV! :cry

Unfortunately, at this time, Champions of Champions Elite will not be shown online. My co-worker and I have been trying to convince the President (of the company, not Obama) that it would be a good idea. At this time he's staying firm about NOT showing episodes online; however, if the show is a success and he gets the green light to start on the NEW project, he's said that he might come around to the idea. So, again, if you want to see the show turn up online: Keep showing support! <3

    The Next LIVE EVENT

The next Live Event for Champions of Champions Elite is this Friday, October 22nd at Charles Billiards in Glendale, California. The night will last from 7:00pm onward. There's going to be LIVE Muay Thai Demonstrations and everyone's going to kick back and watch the Kings Cup. I'm totally going to be there. It's going to be awesome.

I actually uploaded some footage from the last LIVE EVENT on YouTube if any of you want to check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfo4cNBYCsI

There's going to be drinks, giveaways, yadda yadda. Same as last time. And the Rochelle & Melinda, the Official COC-Elite ladies--I wrote about them on the Official blog at http://blog.coc-elite.com --are going to be there too! As well as the newest Spokesmodel, the Got Cast Contest winner! (She's going to be the MC for the evening).

    OTHER

I hope that's answered everyone's questions. Thanks again to all of you for responding to my post!

I'll be around (during working hours) all week to answer questions and respond to comments!

For anyone who's interested and has their televised entertainment delivered by DirecTV, G4 is on channel 310, and the show airs at 8:00 PM EST. :)

IMPORTANT: This means that if you are in Mountain Time, like me, the Muay Thai show will be at 6:00 PM. So if you're setting your DVR, like me, you want to set it to record one hour, starting just before 6:00 PM, or you will miss it.

More like absentminded and forgetful. LOL If I wait until later to set my DVR, I will forget, so I knew I had to go find it and program it to record right away. In my local listing it says 6:00 PM, which means they do adjust per time zone, so I thought I'd let people know. :)

  40. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

I need way more advance notice than that, I live several states away! So I will party by myself over here with the DVR and a bottle of good scotch. :)

    Two major reasons:

    1. Muay thai fighters are in ridiculously good shape. The reason they look like they're made from solid muscle is because they actually are, and the reason no one kicks like them is because no one else could take a hit like that. Layers of strong muscle protect joints and bone, and goes a long way towards protecting the body from serious injuries.

    2. They stop the fights in time. One of the main reasons I don't watch UFC/MMA as much as I used to is because they let it go on for too long before the ref steps in. They know that violent brutality increases their ratings, so they let the brutality go on... to the point where I personally often wonder if they are intentionally jeopardizing the fighters' health just to make more money. Yes, they are adults, and they chose to do this, but past a certain point, you owe it to them to stop the fight and make sure they can fight again in the near future.

If you watch the videos on the CoC YouTube channel though you'll notice that the ref steps in a lot sooner than he might in a UFC cage, and that prevents a lot of severe injuries from occurring.

And since you asked, according to the Urban Dictionary a "derp" is:

  42. Rikky

Rikky Wile E. Coyote - One of a kind

I actually think UFC is safer than boxing or other gloved combat sports. There are very few head blows landed in UFC well, compared to boxing and kick boxing anyway and lot of the finishes are holds which are tapped out of causing no injury.

In Boxing and to a lesser extent kick boxing the fighters basically pound each others heads for 12/5 rounds,in one fight a fighter may have been hit in the head 50 times even though he won and is still standing.

I don't think in the near future we'll see many punch drunk\brain damaged UFC fighters,if one or two blows are landed due to the impact of the bare knuckle the fights over so rather that make the sport safer it seems to me gloves just increase the battery to the brain.

In UFC the ref stepping in,in time is crucial though, its not nice seeing an unconscious guy being hit in the head.

  43. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

Agreed. I do enjoy watching a good fight, but once one of the fighters is out, it's not enjoyable anymore. As I said earlier, I would rather have the fight stop too early, than go too far.

  44. eveinthewind

    eveinthewind Private E-2

Man, it seems like every time I leave an come back you guys really start talking!

Yes, as the saying goes, "In Muay Thai there are no Tap-Outs, only Knock-Outs." It's pretty rough stuff. And it does lack some of the theatricality of the UFC, WWE, or other fighting programs.

However, TONIGHT'S show is going to be a bit more--as someone from another board put it--"glossy." The Kings Cup Super 8 Tournament is done in honor of the King of Thailand's birthday and is quite showy! There are halftime events, even! Check out this video of a halftime show from a previous Kings Cup:

If anyone is interested, I just learned that we've been chosen to show the Kings Cup 2010 -- !!!LIVE!!! -- in North America. This will be the first time that the Kings Cup will be shown on live TV in North America. So, that's pretty neat. It's going to be Pay Per View on Direct TV, Dish, and On Demand on December 5, 2010.

I don't want to give out spoilers about last years Kings Cup, but let's just say Thailand was preeeeeeeeeeeeeetty upset over who won and they're anxious to get their cup back. This fight is going to be bigger and badder than ever!

Those guys aren't "bears" either. They don't just love hairy chests. They love all chests, in general, so long as they're natural. So the fact that most of the Muay Thai guys are fairly hairless doesn't bother them because that's just the way they are! I was searching for something totally unrelated when I stumbled upon them--lucky break! Quirky, yet good people.

Haha, Mimsy. You and that DVR. :-D Thank you!!
